Change is hard for Mitzi Miller, a spunky, elderly widow who misses her house and the way things used to be. After her husband dies, she regretfully sells the fixer-upper she owned for half-a-century. Mitzi is still homesick nearly five years later. On her seventy-sixth birthday, she grants her own wish to return “home” with a bizarre request for an old pencil sharpener she left behind. There she embarks on a nostalgic journey led by her memories and the new owner's bouncy dog. Can this visit bring Mitzi the closure she needs to help her move on?

About the author

I am a high energy, wacky, and busy woman who seeks simplicity and bright spots on my horizon. I love people, pets, books, music and shoes. I feel best when running in Asics, writing in slippers, teaching in boots, reading by the pool in flip flops, dancing in heels, and entertaining in whatever goes with my current toenail polish.I have been a secondary English teacher for over twenty years. My bachelor's degree is in English Education and my master's is in English. Aside from being a writing teacher, I am a perpetual student of the craft and continue to take courses, attend workshops and conferences, and a critique group. I recently launched my slice-of-life blog, "Tales of a Part-Time Sunshine" where I write personal, female-friendly narratives about everyday life. I have also composed poetry, short fiction, humorous essays, and a memoir. I am currently writing a literary novel which is female fiction. I have two daughters, ages twelve and fourteen, two dogs, and one husband. We are a happy unit in spite of our dysfunctions. My household, family, career, and variety of social circles shower me with writing ideas that never seem to run dry.
