About this ebook

How far would you go to ensure your secrets remain buried?

When James Blakely agreed to work as Jezebel Tate’s bodyguard, he gave everything he had to keep her safe—but he never expected that to include his heart. Now, James’s hidden past is emerging from the shadows, threatening everything he’s fought to protect and the life he’s creating with Jezebel.

Jezebel’s recovering well from the trauma of her encounter with an obsessed fan, and she’s focusing her renewed strength on helping James confront the demons that haunt him. But James knows these demons still exist, and he fears what Jezebel doesn’t know could pose the greatest danger of all.

5 Worthy Stars Review by Angelique Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books Blog In the conclusion of the Pieces of Me duet, Truth We Bear, Danielle Rose takes us back to James’ childhood and how he grew up with so many dark shadows that are always consuming his thoughts. James and Jezebel’s story continues and just as they get back into a routine after everything that happened and a period of healing and facing her demons, Jezebel knows that James has his own history and that, in time, will trust her enough to share the details. What I do love about Danielle’s writing is that there is no confusing the then with the now. She gives enough information to make you realize how much damage has been done and why our beloved James is in the state that he is in. Keeping his past from consuming what he and Jezebel have built becomes harder as his past and secrets slowly surface from where they were buried, both literally and figuratively. For a split second, he considers leaving it all, but he knows he’s too weak and Jezebel means too much to him to do that to her and himself. As more of his past comes to light, he soon finds that there is a real threat that has also surfaced. The only problem is that the closer he comes to grasping at it, the faster it slips away. With everything catching up, he tries to keep his guard up but he is only human. Without truly realizing it, by protecting what is most important to him, he might lose the inner battle with his demons. After walking through James’ history we meet Abigail, who was the pawn to her father’s twisted and selfish plan, in more ways than just one. She first comes across as a little girl with a bad example for a father, then someone to loathe but we soon realize through her little bit of history that it was never her fault and she was an innocent in a game of cruel greed. It all comes to an end one way or another, but will anyone else be collateral damage? How does James handle it when he is faced with his biggest, darkest demon? Would he make it right for the sake of the fallen or would he succumb to the dark? Danielle is an excellent storyteller!
