Does another Chianti guide really make sense? It does, if written by an author hailing from Chianti. The author is indeed a real Chianti native who, with his camera, has traveled this territory far and wide to accompany us through its extraordinary particularities. Very often there is still a lack of adequate support to visit the so-called minor areas, which indeed are not minor, as shown by the Chianti territory so rich in art, breathtaking landscapes, history and food. This guide wants to fill this void, accompanying us with simplicity and frankness through unusual itineraries, villages, churches and abbeys where, in addition to works of art, we will be able to learn about lesser-known glimpses, Tuscan expressions, owners of shops and clubs frequented by Chianti residents, the “chiantigiani”. Briefly, there is everything we need here: a local friend who, with suggestions, anecdotes and advices, accompanies us in discovering Chianti with some excursions to the nearby wonders of Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Certaldo, Volterra.

This book is about all the adventures that I have experienced in my journey to places where most people do not get to go. This is not just about all the stars and celebrities and their wine cellars but is about people, monuments, things, and places along the roads of this great country of ours. Wine cellars are a thing of beauty and a place of refuge. They have become more and more popular over the years. Some of the nation wine enthusiasts, including stars and celebrities, have had them built in their homes and restaurants I am the guy who built some of these wine cellars. I have been designing and constructing some of the most beautiful wine cellars in America for over 15 years. Today, I am considered by most, to be The Master Wine Cellar Builder in the U.S. My past clients consist of quite an A-List. Regis Philbin to Rusty Wallace to CEOs of major corporations, and restaurant chains like Ruths Chris Steakhouses. My way of doing things is not the ordinary way. Many years ago I packed up my entire business and converted the basement of an my RV into a rolling workshop, and hit the road. My company, The Magnum Company Inc, is completely 100% mobile, building wine cellars across the nation. I spend 365 days a year traveling back and forth across this country of ours, building wine cellars, camping in RV resorts, golfing, and of course drinking some of the finest wines. I am part nomad, part craftsman and 100% friendly, with a glass of wine for every stranger meet, in every campground I stay. Since about 1995, wine cellars, have become extremely popular on both the East and West Coasts and of course in the Midwest. My company is devoted exclusively to the design, consultation, and construction of custom wine cellars. Its a true adventure! You will learn the proper way to store your wines. The drama that surrounds some of the wine cellar installs. What happens to us if The Wine Cellar RV has to go to the shop. But in the end, you will see some of Americas great wine cellars. Get a great tip on some of the worlds finest wines. Along with good food, good wine, good stories and amazing craftsmanship and construction for some of the countrys biggest wine enthusiast! Who knows you might even meet a star or two along the way. I choose to live anywhere The Wine Cellar RV will take me. I could be eating lunch in Manhattan with a friend or building a wine cellar for a star or celebrity across the country, seeing more of the country in a month than most people might see in a lifetime. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your visit through the United States.

At its most expansive, the Roman Empire stretched from the British Isles to Egypt; Rome was the ancient world's greatest superpower. Roman Architecture: A Visual Guide is an illustrated introduction to the great buildings and engineering marvels of Rome and its empire. Published as a companion volume to Diana E. E. Kleiner's course on Roman Architecture given through Coursera (first offered in January 2014 but based on a class she has long taught at Yale), this enhanced e-book explores not only Rome but also buildings preserved at Pompeii, Herculaneum, Ostia, Tivoli, North Italy, Sicily, France, Spain, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Jordan, Lebanon, and North Africa. Beginning with the birth of Rome as an Iron Age village, Roman Architecture traces the growth and expansion of the Roman Empire through its cities, which featured civic, religious, commercial, entertainment, and residential districts in the urban setting. A valuable resource for both the student and the traveler, Roman Architecture features over 250 photographs and site plans of the most intriguing and consequential buildings in the Roman Empire. These are presented from the fresh perspective of an author who has journeyed to nearly all of the sites, revealing most of them through her own digital images. In addition, this interactive e-book makes learning about these monuments easier than ever, with handy maps and geolocation links that show you just where the monuments are and, if you're traveling, how to get there. Suitable for the classroom and as a guidebook, Roman Architecture is a fascinating introduction to some of history's most compelling and influential architecture.

Join the bestselling author of Ciao, America! on a lively tour of modern Italy that takes you behind the seductive face it puts on for visitors—la bella figura—and highlights its maddening, paradoxical true self

You won’t need luggage for this hypothetical and hilarious trip into the hearts and minds of Beppe Severgnini’s fellow Italians. In fact, Beppe would prefer if you left behind the baggage his crafty and elegant countrymen have smuggled into your subconscious. To get to his Italia, you’ll need to forget about your idealized notions of Italy. Although La Bella Figura will take you to legendary cities and scenic regions, your real destinations are the places where Italians are at their best, worst, and most authentic:

The highway: in America, a red light has only one possible interpretation—Stop! An Italian red light doesn’t warn or order you as much as provide an invitation for reflection.

The airport: where Italians prove that one of their virtues (an appreciation for beauty) is really a vice. Who cares if the beautiful girls hawking cell phones in airport kiosks stick you with an outdated model? That’s the price of gazing upon perfection.

The small town: which demonstrates the Italian genius for pleasant living: “a congenial barber . . . a well-stocked newsstand . . . professionally made coffee and a proper pizza; bell towers we can recognize in the distance, and people with a kind word and a smile for everyone.”

The chaos of the roads, the anarchy of the office, the theatrical spirit of the hypermarkets, and garrulous train journeys; the sensory reassurance of a church and the importance of the beach; the solitude of the soccer stadium and the crowded Italian bedroom; the vertical fixations of the apartment building and the horizontal democracy of the eat-in kitchen. As you venture to these and many other locations rooted in the Italian psyche, you realize that Beppe has become your Dante and shown you a country that “has too much style to be hell” but is “too disorderly to be heaven.”
Ten days, thirty places. From north to south. From food to politics. From saintliness to sexuality. This ironic, methodical, and sentimental examination will help you understand why Italy—as Beppe says—“can have you fuming and then purring in the space of a hundred meters or ten minutes.”

A poignant and transporting cross-cultural love story set against the lush backdrop of the Sicilian countryside, where one woman discovers the healing powers of food, family, and unexpected grace in her darkest hour.

It was love at first sight when Tembi met professional chef, Saro, on a street in Florence. There was just one problem: Saro’s traditional Sicilian family did not approve of him marrying a black American woman, an actress no less. However, the couple, heartbroken but undeterred, forges on. They build a happy life in Los Angeles, with fulfilling careers, deep friendships and the love of their lives: a baby girl they adopt at birth. Eventually, they reconcile with Saro’s family just as he faces a formidable cancer that will consume all their dreams.

From Scratch chronicles three summers Tembi spends in Sicily with her daughter, Zoela, as she begins to piece together a life without her husband in his tiny hometown hamlet of farmers. Where once Tembi was estranged from Saro’s family and his origins, now she finds solace and nourishment—literally and spiritually—at her mother in law’s table. In the Sicilian countryside, she discovers the healing gifts of simple fresh food, the embrace of a close knit community, and timeless traditions and wisdom that light a path forward. All along the way she reflects on her and Saro’s incredible romance—an indelible love story that leaps off the pages.

In Sicily, it is said that every story begins with a marriage or a death—in Tembi Locke’s case, it is both. Her story is about loss, but it’s really about love found. Her story is about travel, but it’s really about finding a home. It is about food, but it’s really about chasing flavor as an act of remembrance. From Scratch is for anyone who has dared to reach for big love, fought for what mattered most, and needed a powerful reminder that life is…delicious.
