Lagercrantz is doing well at a difficult job: picking up the characters and tone of the another author's work. His two sequels introduce some great new characters and conspiracies, but they feel rushed. Just as things start to get interesting, everything rushes to a climax, as if the author has anticipated the movie adaptation, and doesn't want to waste any time on subplots and complications that will just be cut out in the screenplay. It's also a little infuriating the way he doles out many parallel stories one bit at a time, as a substitute for having enough complexity to keep the momentum going with more linear narrative.
