Academic research shows that Architects typically receive little practical architectural training. Mostly they are left to evolve their practice by trial and error. While there is an immense body of knowledge available to Architects and published methodologies, these typically fail the practicing Architect. We know this because you told us and we’ve experienced it firsthand! PraXtice is written by Architects for Architects!

We know it’s difficult to make sense of all the conflicting information; to know when to do this or that. Which technique should I use? It’s really hard! While there’s lots of advice about WHAT Architects should do, there’s precious little about HOW to do it. PraXtice gets this; we’ve been through it ourselves. The objective of PraXtice is to provide a simple practical methodology that you can start using today.

PraXtice is a series of practical, easy to use, model centric architectural routines that build one on another to a complete suite that covers architecture from the Enterprise through Segment Architectures to Solution design, end to end. And then when you’ve got that working we take architecture to a whole new level with a newly developed sociologically centric paradigm in Advanced PraXtice.

PraXtice starts out simply with easy to follow step by step instructions supported by principles and an extensive set of practice routines; that we know work! These lay the foundation for your personal craft development. Professional PraXtice starts with solution design and becomes the platform for Complete PraXtice which adds departmental and organizational level routines to support Segment, Domain and Enterprise architecture.

Professional PraXtice guides the architect through a set of routines including multistage verification and validation routines as they develop an integrated solution design around a formal architecture model; using ArchiMate notation, and supported by project related artefacts like estimations and RISK registers.

This process is guided and shaped by research proven principles and work practices provided and demonstrated by PraXtice. Through these you will see that PraXtice pays particular attention to alignment, validation and RISK management because these are the proven failure patterns for many projects.

With PraXtice you learn by doing. And what you are doing is your job, architecture NOT ineffective documentation. And you can do it very quickly! You’ll have meaningful artefacts almost from the get go. There’s is no wasted effort; even if a routine seems a little odd at execution its value is leveraged later.

While PraXtice could be criticized as prescriptive, one would be ill advised to short cut it; a known failure pattern of time stressed Architects. PraXtice guards against the rigidly of classical ADMs by its use of principles, routines, minimal instruction and regulation, and maximal information. PraXtice is more effective than classical ADMs because it DOESN’T rely on the “mindless” completion of usually “unfit for purpose” templates by bored architects; a situation known to lead to inappropriate performative adaptation.

PraXtice is Architect centric, based on the concept of developing the individual Architect’s craft and their Community of Practice. And when this works it is immensely powerful!  It releases the Architect to do architecture by defining what needs to be done and making it doable.

In informal experiments we have seen knowledge transfer occurring at up to ten times the rate that template based methods typically achieve. And design processes cut from months to days, hours to minutes. We’re talking agile Architecture on steroids! Imagine that! Six minutes instead of an hour. By using PraXtice you’ll win back control of your time and actually get to do architecture; while building an enabling Architecture programme!

The Advanced PraXtice edition cannot be bought; it’s only available to qualified ComPraXtice programmes.
