About the author
Among the most popular and admired writers of her generation, Edna Ferber (1885–1968) was the author of numerous works later adapted for stage and screen, including Show Boat, Cimarron, Giant, Saratoga Trunk, and Ice Palace. Wtih George S. Kaufman she coauthored the classic Broadway comedies The Royal Family, Dinner at Eight, and Stage Door. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1925 for So Big.
