Egon Flaig, geboren 1949, lehrte als Professor für Alte Geschichte an den Universitäten Greifswald und Rostock. Gastprofessuren führten ihn ans Collège de France, die Sorbonne und an die Universität Konstanz; er war Fellow am Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin und am Historischen Kolleg München. 1996 wurde ihm der Hans-Reimer-Preis der Aby-Warburg- Stiftung verliehen. Zuletzt sind von ihm erschienen »Weltgeschichte der Sklaverei« (2009), »Die Mehrheitsentscheidung« (2013) und bei zu Klampen »Gegen den Strom. Für eine säkulare Republik Europa« (2013).
