About the author

Evelyn Heckhaus has traveled many places in the U.S. and once went to Germany. She was a school teacher in eastern North Carolina for many years. Her son, Ed who is active in Special Olympics, encouraged her to submit an entry in the Senior Olympics Silver Arts competition. She began to write poems and stories. Her interest in many different creative arts led her to compete in various different areas. She writes stories about her grandchildren that begin with a true setting, but have a fictional story woven in.

The illustrator, Kim Thorn is a self-taught artist with focus on watercolor and acrylic painting. Not limited to paper or canvas she has painted on various items, from furniture, wall murals, ceramics, glass and even face painting at festivals and special events. Originally from western North Carolina, she currently resides in eastern N.C. with her husband Bob, and special needs son, Ben, (who also loves to draw).
