About the author

I have been involved in emergency response for more than thirty years both in a professional and voluntary capacity. As a Basic Life Support Instructor I teach both the medical profession and the general public. I also teach various levels of First Aid and Emergency First Response. People are very aware that accidents and sudden illnesses can happen anytime, and sometimes our overworked emergency services can be delayed in getting to an incident. First aid is all about learning basic skills that can at times mean the difference between life and death. Knowing how to stop a bleed, recognise the symptoms of stroke or heart attack and be able to perform CPR or help a choking victim is easy when you know how. Now you can learn even more lifesaving skills. As a first aider, because of so many unusual and varied patient presentations, it can be difficult enough to provide appropriate treatments without wondering if you have strayed from your scope of practice. To help overcome this I have provided clear Clinical Practice Guidelines to help you deal with such events.
