About this ebook

“Brilliantly conceived and plotted ... Read this book. You’ll thank me later.” -- David Baldacci

The first in the international bestselling series!

Who is Orphan X?

The Nowhere Man is a legendary figure spoken about only in whispers. It’s said that when he’s reached by the truly desperate and deserving, the Nowhere Man can and will do anything to protect and save them. But he’s not merely a legend.

“Excellent...A smart, stylish, state-of-the-art thriller...might give Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books a run for their money.”—The Washington Post

Evan Smoak is a man with skills, resources, and a personal mission to help those with nowhere else to turn. He’s also a man with a dangerous past. Chosen as a child, he was raised and trained as an Orphan, an off-the-books black box program designed to create the perfect deniable intelligence asset: An assassin. Evan was Orphan X—until he broke with the program and used everything he learned to disappear. But now someone is on his tail. Someone with similar skills and training who will exploit Evan’s secret new identity as the Nowhere Man to eliminate him.

“Hurwitz melds nonstop action and high-tech gadgetry...in this excellent series opener.”

I am not usually a big fan of vigilante types of reads but for some reason this one caught my eye and I actually enjoyed it. It isn't one of those reads where the characters grab you because I mean like Jason Bourne these folks have no emotional genes so robotic because of what they do and X is that in spades. Watching/reading him processing how to interact with people or people in real life situations is almost painful with the level of immaturity, the type that comes over time with exposure. Then you catch him in action and his responses, the way the author writes them makes you feel like it's automatic, hence the robotic nature. It's a great read watching him go from being hand selected and trained and released which we get mostly through flashbacks. There's trouble brewing and they have made the mistake of drawing X into the mix. Well there's danger, action, intrigue and yup betrayal so tons to keep you entertained. I haven't read this author before but I am intrigued so I will be reading a little more of this series.

Evan isn't your normal man. He's more commonly known as nowhere man. If somebody is in trouble, all they have to do is call a number that they are given by somebody else who was in trouble in the past. He comes in and saves the day, so to speak. Everything is going smoothly for him until somebody starts hunting him. They use his need to protect people against him to lure him out. Soon he discovers he's not the only Orphan left.
