Viele Schüler kommen mit dem Medium Film immer nur am Rand des eigentlichen Geschichtsunterrichtes in Berührung. Es stellt sich jedoch die Frage, ob Filme mehr zu bieten haben, als nur unterhaltsame Untermalung des Unterrichts zu sein. Können und sollten Filme didaktisch eine gewichtigere Rolle im Geschichtsunterricht spielen? Der Autor betrachtet zur Beantwortung dieser Frage zuerst lernpsychologische und unterrichtspraktische Aspekte, die der Film mit sich bringt. Im Anschluss daran stellt er zwei Unterrichtsbeispiele vor und untersucht diese analytisch, um zu beurteilen, ob die zuvor erarbeiteten theoretischen Aspekte des Filmeinsatzes berücksichtigt werden.
