About this ebook

A troubled Scottish beauty finds just the hero she needs when she saves him from drowning in a historical romance by the New York Times bestselling author.

Responsible for protecting her younger siblings from their abusive father, Bethoc Matheson is in no position to rescue another soul in Scotland. Yet when she sees a bleeding man on the verge of drowning, that’s exactly what she does, securing him safely in a cave where she can return day after day to tend to his wounds.

Sir Callum MacMillan can scarcely believe such a slight lass as Bethoc could save him from the grasp of death. But he knows the telltale marks of an angry fist on her skin, and he knows she has the soul of a fighter within her feminine frame. Raised to be a protector of the weak by his Murray clansmen, Callum would prefer to be the one saving her—and save her, he will. If he can first survive the treacherous attack that led him into her irresistible arms.

Really like the characters & story building, so worth $. Also, the romance is simple & pretty tame bed-wise... BUT! The MH got really frustrating to me in that last, strung out 1/3 of the book. The story arc could have been condensed into a single "future style" chapter or tied into the epilogue. Really, how many MONTHS do you need to say/do/know something?! I was literally thinking the Mh was a saint or simply too innocent to know that you've got to leave- sooner!- to kick an MH into action.

Callum is wounded and left for dead when Bethoc and her little sister find him and manage to hide home away in a cave while he heals. These two have many obstacles to overcome to find their happiness. This is the next book in the Murray series and can be read by itself but it is much better read in order to immersion into the Scottish life and flavor of those times. Always enjoy the characters and family connections with this author along with the humor intertwined in the story. Looking forward to see who is going to have his tale told next. Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks.

Highland Chieftain by Hannah Howell is Book 21 in the "Murray Family", but can be read as a stand alone. As this is an excellent series, I'd wholeheartedly suggest reading the series in its entirety, but not necessary to follow this story. Once again, Ms. Howell has written a thrilling and tantalizing Scottish Romance filled with captivating characters, intrigue, secrets, murderous intent, suspense, passion with intricately woven romances. Yes, romances, for there is love in the Highlands. Bethoc Matheson, a feisty, fierce, abused lass, who has vowed to protect her younger siblings from their father. Meets Sir Callum MacMillan, a survivor of a brutal attack, but just bearly, and a survivor of an abusive childhood. She hides him while he heals. Sparks fly, but can Bethoc, help heal Callum's wounds, both outside and inside? Can Callum and his friends protect Bethoc from the treachery in their small village? Fast paced, with well-developed characters and a intricately woven storyline. From the first page to the last "Highland Chieftain" captures your heart and holds you in awe. I couldn't put it down, once I started reading. WOW! What an emotionally charged, compelling, intriguing, powerful, mesmerizing and captivating story. Fans of Scottish Romance, Highlanders, intrigue, Medieval treachery, and the power of finding peace, healing, forgiveness and a forever kind of love, will wish to pick up this amazing, brilliantly written tale. Some powerful writing! Ms. Howell once again writes a Highland tale that will leave readers spellbound. "Highland Chieftain", it is not so much about the Highlands, however, as it is about the characters, finding love, healing from past wounds, but can they find a HEA. A steamy, lucious Highland Romance with many twists and turns! Absolutely wickedly delicious! Received for an honest review from Net Galley. However, all opinions, insights, and thoughts are my own personal opinions. Rating: 4.5 Heat rating: Hot Reviewed by: AprilR
