Marrying Her Viking Enemy is the first book in author Harper St. George’s new “To Wed a Viking” series. Although I’ve read other books from Ms. St. George, this is the first Viking book I’ve read of hers and I absolutely loved it! I honestly had a hard time putting it down! I enjoyed this one so much I plan on going back and reading her previous Viking series to catch up on some secondary characters that caught my eye. Our heroine Elswyth is a Saxon maiden from the small village of Banford. Elswyth and her sister Ellan are staying in Alvey at the request of Lady Gwendolyn, helping with her household. Lady Gwendolyn it seems was in the previous series. She is Saxon but now married to the Dane Jarl, Vidar. Elswyth, like her family despises the Danes, that is until she meets a certain Viking warrior... Rolfe is the leader of the Dane warriors. His word among the Danes is second only to Vidar’s. When his friend Lord Vidar & Lady Gwendolyn suggest that their warriors take Saxon wives to help ease the tension and avoid as much bloodshed as possible, Rolfe’s gaze immediately lands on Elswyth… Harper’s books are always well written with wonderful characters. I have to admit I immediately fell for Rolfe. He’s a tough warrior and a leader of men, but yet he has a gentle way about him. He has a great personality. He’s strong, kind, generous and noble, the type of man whom you can easily fall for. I liked Elswyth and I understood and felt her struggle trying to balance her loyalty to her family and her growing feelings for Rolfe. The intensity and the desire between Elswyth and Rolfe is evident from the beginning. The story is well written and flows smoothly, with excellent secondary characters that I can’t wait to read more about! This was an absolutely perfect story to start off this new series. Highly recommend and look forward to reading Ellan and Aevir’s story next!

Marrying Her Viking Enemy by Harper St. George is a mesmerizing and tantalizing story, set in the year 872. Ms. ST. George has done it again, couldn't stop reading until the last page was read, then it lingers in my thoughts. Masterfully written with engaging and realistic characters. The plot was captivating, flowed seamlessly and effortless. I absolutely loved this story!! The intimacy between the hero/heroine was brilliantly written. This story is captivating, fast paced and a must read. Definitely a keeper. I voluntarily received a complimentary copy, however,  these are my honest opinions. I was in no way required nor compensated to write a review." Heat rating: Mild Rating: 5 Reviewer: AprilR

The Danes have arrived in Alvey. Elswyth thought with consternation that they were rather handsome for barbarians, particularly the one in charge, Rolfe. But she must never forget that they are the enemy, and that they've come to take the Saxons' lands, coin, and the women. Elswyth's sister Ellan is more enthusiastic, but what would their father Godric think if they consorted with the Danes whom he despises. Logically, Elswyth knows the Danes are not all bad; their Lady Gwendolyn married one, Vidar, and they're happy. Rolfe is a kind man, but as much as she is tempted, Elswyth could never love her people's conquerors. But what if becoming his wife meant the difference between war and peace? I could make this a very short review: if you enjoy Viking romances, get your hands on MARRYING HER VIKING ENEMY as fast as you can, it is absolutely fabulous! I am ecstatic at what Harper St. George did with the story, and I couldn't find fault with it even if I tried. The year is 872, and I felt transported to another time for the duration of the novel. Ms. Harper's research is most impressive, and she achieves a perfect balance between warring nations, the romance, adding just enough historical details to create a medieval atmosphere that always rings true. There is considerable wariness on both sides when Rolfe and Elswyth first meet. Rolfe suspects Elswyth of not being entirely honest, but he is also holding something back. And the problems this caused was superbly handled by the author. I am not usually overly fond of romances whose foundations rely heavily on territorial conflicts, but I'm happy to say that the politics do not overwhelm the narrative, quite the opposite; it gives the story depth. I loved the interactions between the characters; the sisterly banter between Elswyth and Ellan; the easy camaraderie between Rolfe and his warrior friend Aesir; and the friendship between Elswyth and Gwendolyn, where we sense the difference in their statuses. I appreciated that Rolfe is confident without being arrogant; he had every right to be; he is truly a magnificent hero. Elswyth is a farm girl who had to grow up quickly, but she can down a man with her bow and arrows. I loved how different Elswyth and Ellan are, and I appreciated how subtly the author conveys their uniqueness. How perfectly lovely to see a cover that depicts a pivotal scene so admirably! The chemistry between Rolfe and Elswyth is palpable, and the progression from enemy to lover is gradual and entirely convincing. It's a surprisingly very tender romance, and a captivatinng story, with all the political machinations and betrayals swirling around them. The pacing is impeccable, the story flows seamlessly, and the intimate scenes are sublime. MARRYING HER VIKING ENEMY is wonderfully easy to read, and I just didn't want the book to end. A brilliant, brilliant book!
