What makes someone stand up and be counted? Where does such inner strength come from? Erran D’al never thought he was special on his home world of Vorsa. If anything, he was just a middle-ranking knight among the Kaloran nobles. His only real ambition was to marry his childhood sweetheart and disappear into domestic obscurity.

Then, on his way home from a trade expedition, something happened which would change the course of his life forever. A battle with a familiar foe, the Moora, uncovers a resolve and purpose he was unaware he had. However, there are also strange forces at work; and these, together with his ability to motivate those around him, begin to get him noticed. To aide him in his quest he is led to an ancient weapon with mysterious powers. But is he compelled by his own convictions, or is he being coerced?

About the author

Hollis Earl is a civil servant living in Wales, United Kingdom. He principally trained as a musician and this remains his first passion. But before the music came an interest in astronomy, which in turn led to a fascination with science fiction. " We know so little about our universe and this fuels our imagination. I think everyone has a good story in them and this one, called Citadel, is hopefully mine."

Citadel is based on an old tale but given a new twist: "I wanted the characters to tell the story in their own words (without too much interference from me!), much like the plays from the late 16th and early 17th centuries. I don't know whether it's science fiction or science fantasy, but I hope it works on either level. I also hope it's the story, and not the genre, that draws people to this first instalment."

J.R.R. Tolkien
Terry Goodkind
Wizard’s First Rule, the first novel by Terry Goodkind, was a phenomenon from the moment it was published by Tor Books in 1994, selling more than 100,000 copies in North America alone. It still sells more than 100,000 copies a year and has gone on to bestsellerdom in the United Kingdom and in more than twenty foreign translations as well as audiobook form.

It is now being developed as one of the most ambitious television miniseries of all time. Executive Producer Sam Raimi (director of the three Spider-Man movies), in collaboration with Disney/ABC, is creating a 22-episode adaptation of the book to be filmed in New Zealand.

Richard and Kahlan’s story unfolds over ten more novels, collectively known as the Sword of Truth series, concluding with Confessor in 2007. Placing Goodkind in the elite club of #1 New York Times bestselling authors, the series has sold more than twenty million copies to date worldwide.

In Wizard’s First Rule, Goodkind introduced the world to an ordinary forest guide, Richard Cypher, and the mysterious, powerful woman he comes to love, Kahlan Amnell. Learning his true identity, Richard accepts his destiny as the one man who can stop the bloodthirsty tyrant Darken Rahl. Hunted relentlessly, betrayed and alone, Kahlan calls upon Richard to reach beyond his sword and invoke something more noble within himself as the final confrontation with Darken Rahl looms.

The importance of Wizard’s First Rule is sourced in Goodkind taking on the toughest of all literary challenges: to tell an electrifying story of action, violence, and adventure that also makes people think, and that would influence the choices and actions of its readers.

Brandon Sanderson
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, Warbreaker is the story of two sisters, who happen to be princesses, the God King one of them has to marry, the lesser god who doesn't like his job, and the immortal who's still trying to undo the mistakes he made hundreds of years ago.

Their world is one in which those who die in glory return as gods to live confined to a pantheon in Hallandren's capital city and where a power known as BioChromatic magic is based on an essence known as breath that can only be collected one unit at a time from individual people.

By using breath and drawing upon the color in everyday objects, all manner of miracles and mischief can be accomplished. It will take considerable quantities of each to resolve all the challenges facing Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris; Susebron the God King; Lightsong, reluctant god of bravery, and mysterious Vasher, the Warbreaker.
