About this ebook

For “vampire fans who like their blood and gore leavened with humor” (Publishers Weekly), the fourth exciting urban fantasy novel about antihero vampire Eric and his violent, hilarious adventures—with a twist that’s a perfect entry point for new readers.

IMMORTAL. INGENIOUS. AND DOWNRIGHT INFURIATING.

Void City’s resident bad-ass vampire has a secret to keep, everything to lose, and a plan to win it all. Eric has taken control of the city’s supernatural hierarchy, putting all the deals and contracts that allow Void City to function up for renegotiation. When he installs his insane vampire daughter, Greta, as Void City’s sheriff of the supernatural, bloody mayhem ensues. To further complicate things, the love of Eric’s life is back from the dead, immortally young, at a cost that has put Eric under the thumb of a very powerful demon. The mysterious mouser Talbot, morose mage Magbidion, and all of Eric’s thralls are trying to help him keep things under control….But with early onset Alzheimer’s, vampire hunters, demons, a band of chupacabra, a cursed cousin with a serious grudge, and Rachel as his new “handler”…there’s just not an app for that.

Mind you, it's tripe, especially when compared to the first two-and-two-thirds novels of Eric's saga, but it is *good* tripe. It's certainly no longer the tragic tale of a monster who still has his occasional moments of humanity told with highlights of ironic humor; it is now purely comedy noir. But by that measure, it succeeds well; I laughed out loud many times while reading it, and I truly enjoyed getting to see the world so much from Greta's thoroughly twisted and oh-so-wrong point of view. I kind of doubt, though, that I'll read the fifth Void City novel that is being very obviously set up in the final two chapters of Burned, if and when that fifth novel should become available. I'm afraid that Mr. Lewis quite definitely and irrevocably jumps the shark with this one. Still, I thank him for these first four books, and, even if I will look askance at a fifth Void City novel, I'll certainly be on the lookout for other works with J. F. Lewis' name on the cover!
