About this ebook

Dunfermline 1070

Newly crowned Margaret knows exile, estrangement and terror all too well. When William the Conqueror invaded England in 1066, Margaret and her family fled to Scotland, where she was hurriedly wed to Malcolm, King of the Scots. She’d craved the quiet life of a nun but now finds herself thrust into the public sphere with a duty to save souls—and lives—in the bloody aftermath of the Norman conquest.

Book 1: Spoils of War

When a beggar at her door turns out to be a high born lady, Margaret learns of a family destroyed by the Norman invasion. She resolves to help the woman find her missing daughter—abducted and enslaved by a local mormaer. When the mormaer’s daughter is found murdered, the foreigners quickly become scapegoats. Can Margaret save her displaced countrywomen’s lives, while navigating her new role as queen in a foreign court?

About the author

J. G. Lewis grew up in London, England. She came to the U.S. for college and a career as a museum curator.

Her mysteries evolved from the idea of bringing almost-forgotten but fascinating historical figures to life by creating stories for them. The Ela of Salisbury series features the formidable Ela Longespée, who served as High Sheriff of Wiltshire and castellan of Salisbury and ultimately founder and abbess of Lacock Abbey. Her Margaret of Scotland series features the Anglo-Saxon princess who navigated the brutal aftermath of the Norman Conquest to become Queen of Scotland and who was elevated to sainthood after her death.

J. G. Lewis currently lives in Florida with her dog and her horses.
