About the author

Nothing providedJeanne Bendick passed away on March 14th of this year. She was 95 years old. We will post a more extensive memorial  for this beloved author. Requiescat in pace et in amore.

A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Jeanne Bendick is the author and illustrator of many books, primarily in the field of science. Her work has always been distinguished by her remarkable ability to express complex concepts in simple language, and to make difficult subjects interesting and comprehensible to the general reader.

Concerning the process of writing her recent Herodotus and the Road to History: “He had a fever for inquiring that was unique, even among the always curious Greeks. He wanted to see things for himself, even if it meant going to the ends of the known earth. To put myself in Herodotus’ sandals, I had to become a detective. Most of what we know about his inquiries and his travels comes from his own writing, his Histories. But what about the everyday world he lived in? What was it like growing up a Greek in the fifth century BC? Even Herodotus, an extraordinary Greek, lived in a day-to-day world.”

Besides her earlier and most well known title Archimedes and the Door of Science, Mrs.Bendick has written two other books for Bethlehem Books, Galen and the Gateway to Medicine and Herodotus and the Road to History, as well as illustrating The Mystery of the Periodic Table.
