Jerri Garretson grew up in Kansas and graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. For 24 years, she lived all over the world with her husband, a military attorney. She earned her master’s degree at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. They later returned to Kansas where she was head children’s librarian for Manhattan Public Library for six years and retired from Kansas State University, where she was a reference librarian. In 1997 she began publishing her stories tall tales and ghost stories, including the young adult mystery, The Secret of Whispering Springs, which was named to state reading lists in Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Her most recent book before Poems & Pictures was the nonfiction No Place Like Home - Growing Up in Manhattan, Kansas 1948-1964, about her unusual childhood and the life of the times.
