Paul Talbot, Viscount Leed, is set on avoiding the marriage trap. Though his family has money troubles he won't marry an heiress and dance on her leading strings. He discreetly writes speeches for Parliament, using his words to passionately express others' opinions. Lady Michelle Thomas is a spirited heiress, piqued with the rules of Society which dictate that a woman must be seen and not heard. And if she has opinions on politics or finance? Well, she had best keep them to herself. Sparks fly when she meets Paul and she believes she's found a man interested in more than her face, form and finances. They wed but when Paul refuses her very generous dowry she'll do anything to see her money settled on him, even if it means going to his rival and putting more than his career in jeopardy.

He could not forgive her deception. She could not resist the desire they shared. When a scandal forces them to marry, their passions lead to dangerous secrets.

American-born Alyssa and her twin brother arrive in England after the death of their father reveals their high-born heritage--he was the heir to an earldom. Now they have been placed in the guardianship of the handsome, jaded Duke of Deverell. Alyssa's brother, Nicholas, will be schooled in the strict manners of a future earl. Alyssa will be sent to a convent. Both are horrified at their prospects, so they switch identities. Nick heads for a life at sea. Alyssa, disguised as a boy, takes his place in Deverell's household.

The cynical but mesmerizing Deverell is a tough taskmaster; though his frail-looking ward is spirited and witty, quietly winning the duke's affection, Deverell insists on harsh standards that challenge Alyssa's determination to keep the ruse going. Her feelings for Deverell complicate the situation even more; her young heart falls deeply in love with him. Even after her deception is discovered and he sends her away, she can't stop desiring him. For Deverell, a man whose secrets are locked inside memories of painful betrayals, she will always be a deceiver at heart.

Returning as a beautiful and fully grown young woman, Alyssa takes his breath away. Yet the deceiver in her has only grown bolder.

And so begins a turbulent marriage filled with seduction, heartache, and passion. She fights to find the man who guards his feelings for her behind an impenetrable wall. It will take dangers from outside their marriage to break down the barriers between them. If they survive.

He also seeks to ignore the constable’s inquisitive daughter, despite his attraction to her.

Diana Ashley keeps watch over her brother as he works with the smugglers on the River Arun. She made a promise to her late mother to see to his safety and her father, the constable, cannot know of her brother’s involvement or her concealment of it. She is tired of her duty, and longs to convince her brother to give up the dangerous work. One night Robert finds her on the bluff near his home, but despite his probing questions she won’t reveal the true reason for her nightly vigils.

There is more than smuggling going on in Sussex, and when her brother is accused of a horrible crime she goes to Robert for help clearing his name. Mutual attraction swiftly turns to passion, and she suspects that her heart is in more danger than she herself had ever been while keeping an eye on her brother. Robert is drawn to her sweetness, beauty, and quick mind, but believes she is better off without a scarred man like him.

Can Robert make room in his heart for her?

Or will past pain and betrayal drive him to deny the love they share?
