The knowledge of Christ and His glory, John Owen says, is to be preferred above all other wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. Why is it to be preferred? Why should we become engaged in a study of the glory of Christ? The author answers the question well when he writes, "For if our future blessedness shall consist in being where He is and beholding His glory, what better preparation can there be for it than a constant previous contemplation of that glory as revealed in the gospel, that by a view of it we may be gradually transformed into the same glory?

About the author

JOHN OWEN (1616-1683) was an English Nonconformist church leader, theologian, and one of the greatest minds of the English Puritan movement. He served as academic administrator at the University of Oxford and was briefly a member of parliament for the University.
