About this ebook

Fifty years ago Joy Adamson first introduced to the world the story of her life alongside Elsa the lioness, whom she had rescued as an orphaned cub, and raised at her home in Kenya. But as Elsa had been born free, Joy made the heartbreaking decision that she must be returned to the wild when she was old enough to fend for herself.

Since the first publication of Born Free and its sequels Living Free and Forever Free, generations of readers have been enchanted, inspired and moved by these books’ uplifting charm and the remarkable interaction between Joy and Elsa.

Millions have also come to know and love Born Free through the immortal film starring Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers. But here is the chance to rediscover the original story in this 50th anniversary edition, in the words of the woman who reared Elsa and walked with the lions.

I first saw the movie "Born Free" when I was 5 years old. Because of this wonderful true story, my lifelong dream has been to someday visit Elsa's grave in what is now the Meru National Park in Eastern Province, Kenya. Both Joy & her husband George dedicated their lives to saving Kenya's wildlife. During the filming of "Born Free" Joy received a tame cheeta who she named Pippa. Joy prepared Pippa to be released back into the wild like Elsa had been. Then Joy went on to work with a leopard she named Sheena.

Joy Adamson's book qualifies as an all-time classic, where the story of Elsa is told lovingly and accurately. A must-read for those who want to know and love nature and the natural spirit.

I'd like to buy this and read it. I love the movies Born Free and Living Free. I've never seen Forever Free and I really want to see it one day soon.
