About this ebook

‘I keep feeling like I’m being watched – dropping the boys off at school, choosing wine at the supermarket – but when I turn around there’s nobody there…’

When single mother Darcy’s son falls from a rope bridge at a local playground, life stands still. She clutches his small, limp body, frozen, until a pair of strong hands push her aside, and she watches as George, a local doctor, saves her son’s life.

George is a single parent too, and with his twinkling hazel eyes, easy charm, and lack of wedding band is almost too good to be true, but coffee becomes lunch, lunch becomes dinner, and soon they can’t go an evening without seeing each other. When he invites her to move into his beautiful home with its sprawling garden for her boys, Darcy doesn’t hesitate.

But as Darcy is settling in, she receives a bunch of flowers with a chilling message. George says they’re from an obsessed ex-girlfriend, Opal, and days later Opal turns up at Darcy’s son’s football match. She claims to have shocking information that could threaten George’s custody of his daughter.

Darcy doesn’t know who to trust, but she’s starting to suspect that, whatever the truth, she might have put her beloved boys into terrible danger …

From the million-copy-bestselling author K.L. Slater this utterly gripping psychological thriller will make you gasp out loud as you race towards the unforgettable twist. If you loved The Girl on the Train and The Wife Between Us this book is for you.

What everyone is saying about Single:

‘I would liken reading 'Single' to being strapped into a car with a broken axle on the Tilt-A-Whirl carnival ride. You're gonna get tossed around until you don't know which way is up. Yet, in the end, you can't deny that it was one helluva ride. All superlatives aside, this book stands out in its cleverness and execution. K.L. Slater knocked it out of the park. 5+ stars.’  Goodreads Reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

‘Another stunning novel from KL Slater. .Loved every twist and turn.  The only negative is what to read next as it won’t live up to KL Slater, fingers crossed her next novel won’t take long!’  Goodreads Reviewer⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book kept me awake until the early hours, promising myself time and again that I would only read one more chapter until I was too far into the story to stop. All in all it's a really great read.’ Goodreads Reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

K L Slater is a master of the psychological thriller genre and Single is yet another example of this. I read this book in just a few hours, not ready to put it down and determined to work out how it would end. Every scenario I came up with was wrong, and to me that is a sign of a great story. This one was so twisty and believable - fantastic. If you have not read anything by Slater before what are you waiting for? Seriously, you will not regret it.’ Goodreads Reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

All hail the queen of the psychological thriller! Kim has done is again. Each book she writes, she just sets the bar higher and higher as she out does her previous book! I don’t know how she does it, but this is just what makes her such a fantastic author and one of my all time favourites. As I do with another author, I don’t even read what the book is about when Kim releases a new one, I just let Kim take the reins and take me on its journey as I know I am in good hands. Single is no exception. The plot of this book is a tale that you may have read before, but in this case with twists and jaw dropping revelations that I did not see coming! It is a refreshing change and this is what makes Kim the best in the biz! The obvious outcome isn’t always the case and I love how she messes with the readers mind. I am not going to go into detail of the book as the blurb gives enough and it is best read going in blind like I did. If you are reading Single, new to Kim’s work you are in for a real treat with this one! It is one of her best pieces of work. Kim has created a mix bag of characters that are both likeable and unlikeable which is the perfect balance. They all are both realistic and believable. They are extremely well developed and through Kim’s visual writing, she brings them all to life and it is like they all jump off the page and act out the story right in front of you. I love how Kim is able to do this and it just enhances the experience of reading this story. I also liked how I was kept second guessing each one as it is revealed what events have shaped them to each act the way they do. As always and what draws me to Kim’s work is how fast paced her stories are. Single has quick snappy chapters that always leave you wanting more. There is not beating about the bush with Single and you don’t have time to buckle up before Kim takes you on a wild roller coaster ride full of twists and turns where she also throws shocking revelations in along the way. Inside each chapter is flawless writing that is both fluid and engaging that drew me in to this story right from the get go. Kim is a master of a chilling prologue and at building the tension throughout, making your heart race till the last act which she does expertly in this story. So do I recommend Single? Absolutely. It is a first class psychological thriller that has it all, that will have you racing through the pages well into the night. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to read and review Single and I can not wait to see what Kim comes up with next. Thank-you to NetGally, Bookouture and K.L. Slater for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Single which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Single will grip you right from the start, leaving you unsure of which way to turn. What would you do to protect your sanity? Your children? Having never been in this particular situation, it's hard to say. One thing's for sure, K.L. Slater has provided, without a doubt, a 5-star quality read! I was hooked right from the prologue. We meet Darcy, a single mother to two young boys just trying to do the best she can in an impossible situation. She's forever thankful for the support received from her in-laws in the aftermath of her sons' father's death. So thankful that she's willing to ignore their overbearing ways out of respect for that support. Years later Darcy ends up falling hard and fast for the charming off-duty doctor and single father George who saved her youngest son's life after a mishap on a rope bridge. Not long after they're combining families. Now they're a seemingly happy couple who vacation with their three kids and live in a beautiful house, with a housekeeper. What more could one want? Soon things start to go downhill as Darcy learns of George's obsessive ex, Opal. Is she the one sending funeral flowers, vandalizing her car and following their every move? Just how far might she go? Some might say that what Darcy and George share is love at first sight, others may say it was simply a case of the wrong time, wrong place. I personally think they fell a little too fast for comfort. Isn't this often the case with charming, deceiving partners though? Slater lets you be the judge as she takes you on a whirlwind adventure with psychological thrills you never could've imagined. I'll admit, I went into this story thinking that I had it all figured out. I've never been so happy to be so wrong. Sure, a few details panned out the way I thought (i.e. the picture-perfect new boyfriend not being so perfect), but mostly I was thrown for a loop at every twist and turn. This author’s way with words and ability to flawlessly switch between characters kept me swiping away at my Kindle. I was anxious to get to the bottom of the story. I needed answers and oh did I get them! I recommend this book to anyone looking for an edge of your, seat stay-up-all-night read. Why? Because the suspense was just that good and I did just that! Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and the author K.L. Slater for providing me with an advanced reader copy of this title in exchange for an honest review. I just reviewed Single by K.L. Slater. #Single #klslater #NetGalley #Bookouture #MistysCornerReviews #Bookstagram

The first copy I downloaded was appalling. Awful grammar the story didn't flow. Unedited unfinished. Still very confused as the next time I started reading the chapters had changed with correct grammar and although the story was the same it flowed better with more sections added to the chapters. I had to start the book again as it became confusing. The 2nd read was much more enjoyable full chapter's, better story. Gripped to the book.
