About this ebook

Blindsided by an attack that destroys her home and blamed for murder, Karolina Dalca, a half-vampire, escapes, only to plunge into the magical societies from which she was sheltered. Betrayed by those around her, she abandons her dreams of becoming an investigator and flees, trusting only herself. Her police internship would never prove more useful. Hoofing it through the wilderness, she makes it to her university dorm, disheveled but delightfully deflowered. Enter a full vampire: one wielding dark magic and a ride out of Canada. A fugitive from the law, Karo complies with his demands to escape, unsure whether his requests are bewitched. She vows to clear her name and avenge her mother's death, but Karo's family secrets aren't so easily left behind.

“Karolina Dalca, Dark Eyes” is a delight to read and author MR Noble is a wordsmith whose writing is playful, light and sure, and powerfully evocative: I can smell Carpathian pine, ocean salt, and blood over-scented with lavender. Noble writes fight scenes with intensity that leaves one bruised and breathless. Usually, I skim these bits, but I engaged fully in the choreography of Karo’s meditative katas, and flexed muscle, fang, and claw to do battle. And I love Karo for being the heroine to do battle, even when it is with herself. Without knowing what she might find, Karolina runs to her fate, meets carnage, betrayal, despair, but also love. She falters, but does not give up. And her observations, as she learns about life and love, make me look to the next page for another beautiful metaphor, clever pun or quip. Initially skeptical of a Northern Ontario setting, my desire to be transported was well satisfied as Karo’s rural home is decimated in an attack by the Shadow Forged – felt a thrill, even, that it happened here in Canada. I am waiting, impatiently, for more.

About the author

BiographyM. R. Noble has played a tug of war between science and art her whole life. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and became the Patch Adams of community palliative care, and later moved into mental health nursing. But this couldn't keep her away from the imaginative worlds within the urban fantasy and supernatural horror books she loved. She has read so many books, that when lined up, they'd be the length of her hometown. Her favourite book is George Orwell's 1984. The passionate theme of love fighting against social control remains a constant inspiration for her work and interests today. Her career shifted drastically when she took a job in government claim analysis, where her lust of the subversive world of espionage exploded. From the study of psychopathy to trauma recovery--she dove into to the depths of the human psyche and government politics. The world of Lee Child's Jack Reacher was a reality.Classic urban fantasy now had the opportunity to be more dynamic, with splashes of suspense and horror, or the dark turns of a noir thriller.Keeping to her Lake Simcoe roots, she is a member of the Writers Community of York Region (WCYR), where her muse is made not found... over a hefty cup of coffee.
