The only reason you would want to read this book s because your studies require it. Most of the book is filler, the main plot actually only showing up every few chapters. When the main plot isn't evident, this novel consists mostly of characters speaking and interacting with each other. Overall, the story just included entire chapters full of details readers did not need to know. Also, the book's ending was useless and did not solve the problems of any of the characters!

This book was horrible. I always read everything to the end. I kept hoping something would happen to spark me, but nothing came. The end was too abrupt and didn't mesh will with the title. Should have been called "it'll put you to sleep", but then again, it was written over 100 years ago. That's why it gets 2 stars.

My dislike for Edna almost made me put the book down without finishing. I actually only finished because of all the comments about the surprise ending. Read it if you want an accurate picture of what a completely self-absorbed woman looks like. Felt the ending was very appropriate--disappointing because self absorption will always disappoint.
