Booklist raves, “Taking ‘star-crossed’ to a new level...[and] cinematically styled...Hold Back the Stars is a tale of first love that will appeal to fans of David Nicholls’s One Day and of Jojo Moyes’s romances.”

Love is more powerful than gravity.

“We’re going to be fine.”

He looks around, but there’s nothing out here: nothing but the bottomless black universe on their left, the Earth suspended in glorious Technicolor to their right.

Trapped in the vast void of space, Carys and Max have only ninety minutes of oxygen left to live. None of this was supposed to happen. After a freak accident, Carys and Max are left adrift in space with nothing to hold onto but each other. As they fall, they can’t help but look back at the world they left behind: a world whose rules they couldn’t submit to, a place where they never really belonged; a home they’re determined to get back to because they’ve come too far to lose each other now. While their air ticks dangerously low, one is offered the chance of salvation—but who will take it?

This book was inspired by Ginos avid interest in science fiction from a very early age. He has a firm belief in the existence of extraterrestrial life. The two main characters from his earlier book, The Secret at St. Marys, are reunited in this story. They are transformed into their alter egos who take us on a journey of goodwill and intrigue in sectors of the universe yet unchartered. In this book, we experience the thrill of travelling to strange new worlds and meeting aliens that are like nothing ever before encountered. There are the Sebemos of the planet Xulud. They have a body that looks like rough stone and are shaped like a long macaroni noodle. There are six spindly-like tentacles around their bodies, and they have a face that resembles a computer chip. Their leader is Gray Munchkin. There are the Gubeiggas of the planet Esile. They are almost like humans, but with pointy heads and wings. They are quite good-looking. Their leader is Queen Becca. There are the Cyclopzorgs of the planet Ocat, who want to change the way the Sebemos and the Gubeiggas live. They have bodies that are half-bear and half-giraffe. There are the Brainoids of the planet Barbabeetle, who are very wise and want to help Omsoc and Etnorb. This race looks like beautiful sunflowers, with faces that have some humanlike characteristics. Their leader is Onigiul. The immortal, wise one is Aznagarb. There is also the aspiration of new hope for peace and harmony among those who seek this. Our two travelers achieve what seems to be the impossible, against all odds and great danger to themselves.
In this “thrilling, seductive, and utterly absorbing” (Paula Hawkins, #1 New York Times bestselling author) historical suspense novel in the tradition of Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile and Ruth Ware’s The Woman in Cabin 10, pre-war tension and forbidden romance abound, and not everyone will survive the journey…

The ship has been like a world within itself, a vast floating city outside of normal rules. But the longer the journey continues, the more confined it is starting to feel, deck upon deck, passenger upon passenger, all of them churning around each other without anywhere to go...

1939: Europe is on the brink of war when young Lily Shepherd boards an ocean liner in England, bound for Australia. She is ready to start anew, leaving behind the shadows of her past. The passage proves magical, complete with live music, cocktails, and fancy-dress balls. With stops at exotic locations along the way—Naples, Cairo, Ceylon—the voyage shows Lily places she’s only ever dreamed of and enables her to make friends with those above her social station, people who would not ordinarily mingle with her. She even allows herself to hope that a man she couldn’t possibly have a future with outside the cocoon of the ship might return her feelings.

But Lily soon realizes that she’s not the only one hiding secrets. Her newfound friends—the toxic wealthy couple Eliza and Max; Cambridge graduate Edward; Jewish refugee Maria; fascist George—are also running away from their pasts. As the glamour of the voyage fades, the stage is set for something sinister to occur. By the time the ship docks, two passengers are dead, war has been declared, and Lily’s life is irrevocably changed.

“A vividly descriptive ride” (Marie Claire) with a “jaw-dropping ending” (RT Book Reviews, Top Pick), Dangerous Crossing is a transporting and “gorgeously atmospheric” (Ruth Ware, New York Times bestselling author) story for the ages.
