When the travesties and social changes of World War II confront a small southern town, faith, family, and love sustain the lives of one young woman and her family.
“I’m waiting for my life to begin. Waiting for the train to come in,” Ava Stilwell, a young woman eager for life, sings a popular song with the big band that reflects her heart. In the midst of a world at war, Ava has found love, a passion for her music, and new opportunities, but the war still looms over her, threatening to take it all away.
It’s 1943 and World War II has gripped the nation, including the Stilwell family. Rationing, bomb drills, patriotism, and a changing south barrage their way of life. Neighboring Fort McClellan has brought the world to their doorstep in the form of young soldiers from all over the country and German POWs from half way around the globe. As the travesties and social changes of the war confront this small southern town, faith, hope, and love are all that sustain the lives of Ava and her family.
Songbird is an inspirational, historical fiction novel, dealing with family, faith, strong women, and the changing south. It explores many historical elements of the World War II era, such as women’s aid groups, the writings of Ernie Pyle, D-day, radio and music of the 1940s, and the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
I love to write! Since graduating from Samford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, my writing career has been diverse to say the least. I have written everything from government grants to monthly articles on popular wrestling personalities to Christian dramas. I have had close to 100 articles published in magazines such as American Fitness, Missions Mosaic, and Christian Single. I have also helped raise over $15,000,000 in funding for nonprofit organizations.Whether it is newsletters, magazine articles, annual reports, fundraising pieces, or video scripts, I just love the writing process; but my greatest love is creative writing. I won a Creative Writing Award from Samford University for one of my short stories and have had dramatic scripts published in Lifeway's Christian Scripts for Stage, Street, & Sanctuary. Now, I am excited to publish my first novel!
One of the most beloved novels of all time, The Thorn Birds, Colleen McCullough’s sweeping family saga of dreams, titanic struggles, dark passions, and forbidden love in the Australian Outback, returns to enthrall a new generation.
