His work-related problems compounded by a vindictive ex-wife intent on bleeding him dry financially sends Malone into a spiral of depression that soon has him drinking too much in the attempt to cope.

Initially resentful over his reassignment to the cold case section, Malone's attitude starts to change when he and new partner, Detective Jaime Reyes, come across the files of a cold as ice, 23-year-old unsolved murder case. The more they study the case, the more certain they become that the theory pursued by the original investigators was completely wrong.

Since the decades-old murder does not fit the unit's criteria for reopening a cold case for active investigation, Malone and Reyes embark on an "off-the-books" investigation. Ratings and reviews

I love this book so much it was fun, entertaining, also little funny with that cop Reyes. However is was so easy who it was the murderder thats why I put 4 stars instead 5 stars because it wasn't a challenge; but it was a good read. I still recommed this book to anyone wgo wants a good read.

good read on a lazy weekend. the plot is predictable. already guessed the suspect when the suspect called malone for a date on the beach. too abrupt. there was too much detail in the writing...sometimes its like you're reading a report, sometimes a cooking recipe,sometimes an encyclopdia. had to skip all that to get to the action. not hard to do since the story is predictable.

Lots of incorrect words (ie: palatable instead of palpable) and need for an editor was distracting. I knew who the murderer was right away. Good knowledge of police procedures. Way too much detail as to what a person did to get ready to leave, how they made a meal, etc.
