About the author

Laura Isoniemi is a designer and an art pedagogue. She is a lecturer at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture at Aalto University in Finland, where her professional expertise is on experimental surface design, invention methods and creativity. Her multidisciplinary methodology has reached international acclaim, and Isoniemi has toured the world as a visiting lecturer at the School of Fine Arts (Reykjavik, Iceland), the Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation (Donghua University, China), the College of Architecture and Urban planning (Tongji University, China), and the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts (Makerere University, Uganda).

 In addition to her teaching, Isoniemi has designed church textile collections and jewellery for four Finnish churches, and worked as an interior designer and art curator for public spaces. She was the concept designer, curator and producer of the Echoes – 100 Years of Finnish Design and Architecture exhibition which toured five countries in 2017. Isoniemi’s own design work has been shown in group exhibitions in both Finland and abroad.
