"This was the first Jack Reacher novel and with its lean, spare prose it has one of the most intriguing heroes of our times and displays a gift for explosive drama." (Daily Express)

Reacher is the only stranger in town on the day they have had their first homicide in thirty years. The cops arrest Reacher and the police chief turns eyewitness to place him at the scene. As nasty secrets leak out, and the body count mounts, one thing is for sure.

They picked the wrong guy to take the fall.

First book in a long while that I found myself looking for time to read rather than looking for something to do in the odd few minutes I usually get. Made me want to read again. And I'm an avid reader (or was), taking in a few books a month at one point. This has sparked my desire to read once more. I especially liked the first person perspective, it's my personal favourite way to write stories. Having seen the two films (before reading any of the books) I expected this to be faster paced, but I was pleasantly surprised. The writing is clever and well thought out. The dialogue is snappy too. One thing I think the author did well was not dwell on the gore or violence too much considering the context of the story.

Lee Child tries to create a oblique view of one man's quest through life. I couldn't imagine anyone living like Reacher, drifting into and out of situations and trouble. He makes a good fist of it though and keeps you on the edge of reading experience. There's always something around the corner, and Child's detail and description is faultless. It all built up to a satisfying conclusion. Try One Shot by the same author.
