Linda Fondren, one of 11 children born to a single mother in the poorest and fattest state in America, watched the consequences of obesity ruin her sister's life--and was motivated to open an all-female gym in her hometown of Vicksburg, MS, with the motto "positively reshaping women." Then, witnessing how many middle- and low-income Vicksburg residents were brought up short in their fitness and health efforts by limited budgets, time, and access to resources, Fondren responded by striking at the root problem. In 2009, she spearheaded Shape Up Vicksburg, a City Hall-supported program in which she convinced the local hospital to offer free health screenings, restaurants to create healthy low-cal menu options, and Walmart to host weigh-in stations. Fondren signed up more than 2,500 Vicksburg residents to take charge of their health and nutrition--many of them for the first time. They lost more than 15,000 pounds.

Shape Up Sisters! is a get-healthy prescription for regular people with jobs, budgets, and real-life challenges. Fondren offers tactics to incorporate exercise into daily activities, delicious recipes and menus to for eating healthfully on a budget, and motivation for a major attitude shift. She wraps it all in her empowering personal story and the uplifting tales of women who have changed their lives by following her simple strategies.

With Fondren's approachable personality and practical advice, Shape Up Sisters! is both an easy-to-use guide and a bold statement in the greater national narrative about improving health and weight loss across socioeconomic lines.

Queen Afua
A transformative journey of physical and ancestral healing from a renowned herbalist, natural health expert, and dedicated healer of women’s bodies and women’s souls

“Just when I thought I was all alone, I found myself walking with a group of conscious women who were taking sacred steps and speaking sacred words. We were on our way to Queen Afua’s Global Sacred Woman Village. Come with us, there’s Maat—balance and order—there.”—Erykah Badu

Queen Afua practices a uniquely Afrocentric spirituality. Her classic bestseller, Heal Thyself for Health and Longevity, forever changed the way African Americans practice holistic health. Now, with Sacred Woman, she restores the magnificence of our spirits through sacred initiation.

Queen Afua begins by helping us to discover our unique “womb-an-ness”—and to honor the womb as the center of our consciousness and creativity, giving us a twenty-one-day program for womb purification and spirit rejuvenation. Then Queen Afua summons us to enter the Nine Gateways of Initiation, where she blesses us with the exact tools we need to bring our beings into true harmony with the earth and the cosmos. Through extraordinary meditations, affirmations, and rituals rooted in Ancient Egyptian temple teachings, Queen Afua teaches us how to love and rejoice in our bodies by spiritualizing the words we speak; the foods we eat; the spaces we live and work in; the beauty we create in our lives; the healing energy we transmit to self and others; the relationships we nurture; the service we offer; and the transcendent woman spirit we manifest.

With love, wisdom, and passion, Queen Afua guides us to accept our mission and our mantle as Sacred Women—to heal ourselves, the generations of women in our families, our communities, and our world.

Praise for Sacred Woman

“Sacred Woman flings open the gates of understanding the feminine essence. It is the return of the soul force to women.”—Jewel Pookrum, MD, PhD (Sunut Arit)

“Queen Afua is an extraordinary healer, teacher, mother, and keeper of our legacy. Through Sacred Woman, she has given us the sacred tools we need to live our lives in this new century.”—Hazelle Goodman, actress

“Sacred Woman offers profound wisdom to all who seek healing and transformation. Queen Afua is a national treasure.”—Bob Law, author, radio personality, and vice president of WWRL
Tia Mowry
From the bloating to the belching to the Baby Story marathons that might just drive you crazy, prime-time star and new mom Tia Mowry delivers the lowdown in a frank, hilarious guide to modern pregnancy.

Tia Mowry’s 800,000+ Twitter followers know that she tells it like it is. Now, in a pregnancy guide like no other, Tia leaves no topic off-limits while helping expectant moms stay empowered, pampered, and laughing out loud. From sex during the third trimester to pimped-out strollers, Oh, Baby! reveals what to really expect on that nine-month road to the delivery room.

Sharing her personal experience with cravings (she couldn’t have done it without sourdough bread and Funyuns); maternity clothes (Tia prefers black, with sequins); panty liners (memorize that aisle at the drugstore); vagina exercises (just say No!); and hiding your bump from your coworkers (tricky for Tia, since her character on The Game was in lingerie half the time), the maternity maven also discusses Ask the OB Q&A’s she posed to her own ob-gyn, along with dozens of tried-and-true tips for combating morning sickness, fear, and everything else that might overshadow a radiant glow.

From the time she started showing to the moment she welcomed her new baby boy, Cree Taylor, into the world, Tia was in the spotlight, from Access Hollywood to every glossy magazine and countless online sites. Yet she stayed down-to-earth throughout it all. Keeping it real, Oh, Baby! helps every mommy-to-be stay stylish, maintain her dignity, and trust her gut (no matter how big it gets).
Mark Lauren

For men and women of all athletic abilities!

As the demand for Special Operations military forces has grown over the last decade, elite trainer Mark Lauren has been at the front lines of preparing nearly one thousand soldiers, getting them lean and strong in record time. Now, for regular Joes and Janes, he shares the secret to his amazingly effective regimen—simple exercises that require nothing more than the resistance of your own bodyweight to help you reach the pinnacle of fitness and look better than ever before.

Armed with Mark Lauren’s motivation techniques, expert training, and nutrition advice, you’ll see rapid results by working out just thirty minutes a day, four times a week—whether in your living room, yard, garage, hotel room, or office. Lauren’s exercises build more metabolism-enhancing muscle than weightlifting, burn more fat than aerobics, and are safer than both, since bodyweight exercises develop balance and stability and therefore help prevent injuries. Choose your workout level—Basic, 1st Class, Master Class, and Chief Class—and get started, following the clear instructions for 125 exercises that work every muscle from your neck to your ankles. Forget about gym memberships, free weights, and infomercial contraptions. They are all poor substitutes for the world’s most advanced fitness machine, the one thing you are never without: your own body.
