About this ebook

His crime was unforgivable, but the law protects him.

Mark & Billy Jo are back in this riveting romantic crime thriller about an unreported crime in the police chief’s family in this new crossover series from NY Times & USA Today bestselling author Lorhainne Eckhart.

“If you ever overstep with my family again, not even Gail will be able to save your job. Then, I assure you, the closest you’ll come to working in law enforcement again will be as a security guard at some mall.”

Exactly what Mark had expected.

“Chief Tolly Shephard”

The law is designed to protect the innocent, but what happens when the police chief could be protecting a criminal?

If an alleged crime is reported to you, but no victim can be found, has a crime been committed? This is exactly the question Billy Jo McCabe asks Detective Mark Friessen when an anonymous woman approaches her and tells her about an unspeakable crime taking place right under the watch of the chief of police, in his own family.

They soon learn family is family, and the victim has been hiding her secret for years. But she’s not just any victim: She’s the niece of the chief of police, Tolly Shephard.

But when Mark and Billy Jo dig into the chief, his family, and the secret they’re hiding they soon discover the players in this game are people who use the law to their advantage, and sometimes the law doesn’t protect the innocent—and it has the best non disclosures money can buy. “Grab your copy now by clicking the BUY now with 1-Click button at the top of this page!”

some crimes are above and beyond the law - mostly those that folks do not want to see or believe. Assault, especially on dependent minors, is especially hard to prosecute, even with recent changes in legislation that in theory give childhood victims longer to testify, and invalidate certain types of non disclosure agreements. no laws can ever undo the damages once done. undermining self esteem and trust issues is something that in theory can be managed within a healthy relationship, yet risk and trust have to be managed in order for former victims to take the steps to try to build relationships. I was pleased to read Billy Jo and detective Mark trying to take steps towards trust and building more. it is a sad thing that given all the various endeavors Chief Tolly seems to be involved in, misguided efforts to protect a victim are what put him out of office. Chief Tolly might be out of office, yet his influence is far from gone, and certainly not forgotten. An intense psychological drama!

Once more, the author delivers not only a very engaging but one that is thought provoking. Billy Jo McCabe, a social worker, and Mark Friessen, a detective in a department that is filled with secrets, join forces to unravel the secrets that the police chief is keeping. As they deal with the complicated situation, the relationship between Billy Jo and Mark starts to solidify. The author brings to the forefront , the reality of the existence of not only police corruption in some sections of the country, and of those in powerful positions, but also the inequality that women in the workforce still encouter in the 21st century. Let us not forget the other very real issue our society sadly still encounters, domestic abuse of young girls, even in the homes of those wealthy. Something that will affect them for the rest of their lives. This was another excellent story in a series that gets better and better with each new book. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Billy Jo and Mark see themselves involved in a whirlwind of deceit, lies, and crime and are asked to keep everything under wraps as it involves rich families and important figures with national exposure. At the same time, Mark gets under his boss´s bad feelings as he does take action against his brother's bad behavior. A fast-paced story with strong feelings almost exploding and some romance. Very entertaining and easy to read! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
