It's said crocodiles eat their young, but Andy Friessen's mother makes a crocodile look like mother of the year! His wife, Laura, her mother is no role model for motherhood either. The author is so great at developing characters and making them real, that at times while reading this book, I found myself cursing outloud at some characters, and almost crying and wanting to hug others. Andy and Laura Friessen have moved two states away from home, with their three children, to get away from his mother who will stop at nothing to manipulate him and destroy his wife. Some troubles, though, you can't run from; their oldest child, 5 year old Gabriel, is diagnosed with a life threatning illness that requires a transplant. This happens a few days after moving to their new home. What happens after that, makes for an emotional exploration of what family and unconditional love is all about. I will read this one, again and again and again!
