Biart wrote The Aztecs in order to make known the history of their civilization before the arrival of the Spanish. He did not intend to write anything new but to extend the knowledge of the Mexican past to the present. Biart lived in Mexico for 20 years serving as an apothecary, at the same time he was a correspondent for the Paris Museum to which he sent extensive collections of birds and insects. In addition to the scientific work and travel reports, Biart wrote adventure books for children.
