Mira Falling wants to be a star, with her name up in lights and a horde of fans who adore her. But achieving fame and fortune can be difficult when you're stuck in a small, backwater town like Harvest Bay and have a brilliant brother who overshadows your every move.

Jack Falling is the golden boy of the Bay but Mira suspects he has a darker side especially when she starts receiving messages from long-dead, infamous murderers, which appear to incite her to commit unthinkable crimes against those who stand in the way of her dream.

One such person is Lily Holborn, the twin sister of Sebastian Holborn, whose wealthy family moves into the house across the street. Handsome and edgy, Mira sees in Sebastian an opportunity to escape Harvest Bay and pursue her dream of stardom. But Lily and Jack, and perhaps the whole town, have other plans for Mira.

About the author

A life-long lover of story, Maria Arena began tinkering with the idea of being an author in her teens. This idea became a reality in 2006, when Hachette published 'Mira Falling' (in paperback). After years of studying and teaching creative writing, Maria independently published her second novel 'Sisterhood' in 2014, while seeking publication for a third novel and writing a fourth.  In between, teaching and writing novels, Maria plays around with short stories and co-runs a national short story writing competition at Field of Words.

Whatever you know about ghosts – forget it. They don’t haunt, go headless or vanish in white floaty sheets. But they do have a tendency to reek like foul, rotting flesh – something that Sethaliss, a soul-stealing Grey Ghost masquerading as the village undertaker, is somewhat proud of. With extendable cracking bones and a retractable extra finger, he’s a master of deception and disguise, as well as the ruthless enemy of Creeven, where the good ghosts live. Coullian Cuill is a twelve-year-old who’s lost his father, been abandoned by his mother and is living with his grandmother in a rear-end-of-nowhere village. When a strange letter arrives inviting him to compete for the role of Ghost Guardian Apprentice, Creeven’s sworn protectors on earth, he has little hesitation in applying. With bruiser best friend Rawsy as his Assistant, Coullian is trained in everything ghost, from the tell-tale signs to spot a living ghost to the 3Gs (Gadgets for Grey Ghosts). When Sethaliss learns that Coullian is to be the next Apprentice, their relationship rapidly deteriorates – culminating in endeavours to chop off Coullian’s head, attempts at poison, and getting his trusted Assassin to murder him. When all this fails, he then tries his bony hand at kidnapping... On All Souls’ Night, when souls rise from graves to become good ghosts or Greys, Sethaliss is desperate to discover the secret entrance into Creeven. With time running out, Sethaliss gives Coullian an impossible choice: his life for Rawsy’s, a soul for a soul. Coullian must prove what he’s willing to do to save others – even after all he’s lost – to show that he’s got what it takes to become the next Ghost Guardian Apprentice. Coullian Cuill: Apprentice Ghost Guardian is a coffin-cracking adventure that will appeal to all lovers of scary, sharp comedy aged 10+.
HIS DARK MATERIALS IS SOON TO BE AN HBO ORIGINAL SERIES STARRING DAFNE KEEN, RUTH WILSON, JAMES McAVOY, AND LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA!

The modern fantasy classic that Entertainment Weekly named an “All-Time Greatest Novel” and Newsweek hailed as a “Top 100 Book of All Time.” Philip Pullman takes readers to a world where humans have animal familiars and where parallel universes are within reach.

Lyra is rushing to the cold, far North, where witch clans and armored bears rule. North, where the Gobblers take the children they steal—including her friend Roger. North, where her fearsome uncle Asriel is trying to build a bridge to a parallel world.

Can one small girl make a difference in such great and terrible endeavors? This is Lyra: a savage, a schemer, a liar, and as fierce and true a champion as Roger or Asriel could want.

But what Lyra doesn't know is that to help one of them will be to betray the other...

A masterwork of storytelling and suspense, Philip Pullman's award-winning The Golden Compass is the first in the His Dark Materials series, which continues with The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.
