Each of the stories in Ms. Jordan’s series titled Heroes at Heart , has been heartbreaking as well as heartwarming. This one is no exception. While the story centers around Olympic hopeful Morgan McAlister and paramedic Jaxon Chapman, one of Miss Ethel’s boys, it’s so much more than the plot. It’s a story about becoming stronger after being forced to face lost dreams. It’s about friendships. It’s about learning from ones mistakes to becoming a better person. It’s about family, not only one made up of blood relations but also by people that love you and are close to you. And of course, it’s about the healing powers of love and finding someone who is your “soft place” to land. Another winner by this talented author. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Jaxon, former military and current EMT, hasn't always had the best life. As a child, he and his twin, were abused by their mother. Then their grandmother took them in, but passed away leaving them with their Aunt. When the Aunt's boyfriend decided he didn't want them around, she left them in foster care. Luckily they ended up with Miss Ethel, Jaxon's "soft place" to land. Always grateful for her love, support, encouragement and words of wisdom. Morgan, and Olympic hopeful, has worked tirelessly her entire life to pursue dreams of swimming in the Olympics. With her dad as her coach, she often wondered if the dreams weren't more HIS unrealized dreams. Wanting to have a night of fun, Morgan finds herself at Grimm's bar celebrating with her girlfriends. When she spots Jaxon, she knows her night has just gotten better. One night stands aren't typically her thing, but she agrees because she doesn't have time in her life for a relationship. After one night together, Jaxon KNOWS he wants more with Morgan. He also realizes it will never work because he would never do anything to keep her from realizing her dreams. When a tragic accident crushes those dreams, Morgan withdraws. Her dad is furious and tries to push her too fast. Not feeling as though she has a choice when released from the hospital, she chooses to go home with Jaxon, a virtual stranger.... I actually think this is the BEST story in the series thus far. It's crushing when all we've worked for is suddenly lost. We tend to lose focus and not know who we really are or what we want to do with our lives. It seems as though everyone else's life is going on as planned, but yours isn't. This story is SO relatable! I loved how Jaxon supported Morgan and her decisions and didn't go all Alpha on her. Truly a delightful story! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
