The two World Series opponents went head-to-head above the baby steps of a dynasty that soon dwarfed both league champions. It was a turbulent time for the country and the game, neither of which would ever be the same again.
About the author
Matthew Silverman has written or co-written nine books on baseball. He served as associate publisher for Total Sports Publishing, working with partners Major League Baseball and Sports Illustrated. A longtime member of the Society of Baseball Research, he was managing editor for Total Baseball and The ESPN Baseball Encyclopedia and was lead writer, editor, and spokesman for Baseball: The Biographical Encyclopedia. Profiled in the New York Times, Silverman has been interviewed on ESPN radio, NPR, Sports Net New York, and numerous other programs and publications.
