Understanding the importance of strategy is the basis for rational advancement. In the music business – strategies are not always perceptible. They are multi-layered, long-lasting, but also instantaneously effective. The ultimate goal often transpires along the way.

In order to understand tactics, one has to read between the lines. The reason why different pre-conditions and industrial expectations must always be taken into account is due to conflicts between economic and artistic goals. An artist’s progress often depends on their interest groups’ comfort to these aspects and is about maintaining the balance between business objectives and the artist’s story.

This book deals with factors affecting strategy and how it relates to the artist and their management. Since viable passive income generation in the streaming era is what is most sought after, management missions have also changed. Managers, record companies or music publishers are no longer patriarchs as before, but more like partners. This book illustrates the current state in light of new opportunities.

‘Strategy’ is the final chapter of The Essence of the Music Business Trilogy from Mika Karhumaa.

Have you ever wanted to set up and maintain the playability of your guitar by yourself? Did you ever wonder what a tech does when you take your guitar in for a "set up"?
Well now the answers to your questions and all the steps are laid out in my Guitar Set Up Guide. My guide contains all the information you need based on my 20+ years of experience as a guitar tech. It also answers many questions that you may have asked yourself about intonation, adjusting pickups, cleaning your frets and so forth. To help you better understand the set up process I have included many detailed photos as well as instructional videos showing you how the set up is done.
I wrote this Guitar Set Up Guide for guitar players who want to set up and maintain their own guitars and for the player who just want to know this information so they can relate to their techs. All the content is geared for the very beginner to the advanced player. I receive dozens of emails per week asking a wide variety of guitar related questions and now the answers are incorporated in one comprehensive guide. Questions such as:
"How far away should the pickups be from the strings"?
"Which way do I turn the truss rod adjustment to straighten my guitar's neck"?
"What is the easiest way to clean the frets on my guitar"?
"I've tried to intonate my guitar but it still doesn't play in tune. Why is this"?
"To increase sustain I should adjust my pickups as close as possible to the strings, right"?
"What do I do if the bridge on my guitar doesn't have a way to adjust the intonation"?
"Is there an easy way to remove all the strings on my archtop guitar with a floating bridge and quickly get it intonated"?
"I find it difficult to adjust the truss rod on my guitar because the adjustment is at the heel. Is there an easy way to do this"?
And many more...
Fundamentals of Musical Acoustics is a landmark book in its field, hailed for its astonishingly clear, delightfully readable statement of everything of acoustical importance to music-making. Though directed primarily to the music student who is taking an acoustics course, it is essential reading for all musicians, music lovers, and audiophiles eager to expand their musical horizons.
The book deals extensively with the fundamental modes of sound production and with the special sound-producing properties of the musical instruments in common use today — keyboard, string, brass, woodwind, and percussion — as well as the human voice. It further explores the critical roles played by the room and by the hearer's auditory apparatus. The basis of scales and harmony and the craft of instrument makers are also discussed in this masterly text, which includes numerous illustrations, bibliographical information, and a stimulating section of "Examples, Experiments, and Questions" at the end of each chapter. After the original publication of this book, Dr. Benade maintained a detailed set of corrections and revisions that have been incorporated into this second, revised edition.
"Comprehensive . . . rigorous . . . well-organized . . . will surely be the text of choice." — American Scientist
"A remarkable achievement . . . a book on musical acoustics by an acknowledged master of the subject which guides the reader through all the most subtle intricacies of every important family of Western musical instruments with virtually no mathematics . . . Arthur Benade, a professor at Case Western Reserve, has set forth a vast knowledge of musical acoustics so clearly that you can read his book as you would a novel." — The Audio Amateur
"Every chapter contains material not previously covered in books written on musical acoustics." — John T. Scott, Physics Today
"Recommended for music lovers and audiophiles who want to know more about the physics of musical sounds." — Stereo Review
