Retired homicide detective Thomas Prescott is reluctant to read the bestselling true-crime thriller, Eight in October. After all, it was his case, and he doesn't need to be reminded of the gruesome details. The book dubbed the serial killer, Tristen Grayer—The MAINEiac. Grayer is allegedly dead, but only Prescott knows the truth: Grayer is alive and lurking in the shadows.

On October 1st, the anniversary of the first murder, The MAINEiac resurfaces, killing someone special from Prescott's past. Suddenly, it's déjà vu for Prescott, except this time the women closest to him begin to fall victim. With the help of his former flame, Bangor chief medical examiner, Dr. Caitlin Dodds, Prescott must race against the clock to stop Grayer from completing his encore.

This author's voice is quirky and touched with just the right amount of humor to balance out the murder and mayhem. It has a sort of Deadpool-esque quality that had me giggling from the start, but the murders are revealed in a very abrupt way that brings a great contrast to the story. This guy may be my new favorite author! ( Except for Steven King. No one beats the King)

Excellent read always moving and surprising but a little hard to follow. The end explains everything but I will have to reread the beginning to put all the explanations together in my mind. I look forward to reading it again!!!

I love the would-be-not-quite-as-badass-a-he'd-like-to-be detective. (But, still just enough) Fast paced and lots of action- mixed in with just the perfect balance of reality and comedy. This series is engaging without sucking you emotionally dry; yet still leaves you craving the next adventure without using major cliff hangers. Excellent
