“My face is a mask of disinterest, despite me being beyond impressed.” When I read His Pet, I spent a large chunk of the time with a worried twist in my gut. First because the hero, Lorenzo, seemed so casual about possibly killing the heroine and then, as he and Amelia grew close, my worry turned to the seemingly impossibility of their relationship. This anxiety increased my enjoyment of the book and kept me glued right to the end. Blade, just like Lorenzo, was very casual about either killing Emily or forcing her into a whorehouse. In some ways he was almost more scary since unlike Lorenzo, Blade is very calm and levelheaded. Emily is a strong, self-sufficient and capable woman who stood up for herself, despite her horrific childhood. There was no instalove with these two and more than once I worried they would never find their way. Victor's also a little “different”. I’m sure his upcoming book will be as anxiety filled as His Pet and His Puppet. I can't wait!

Emily and Blade are really good for each other. Emily has been running from her past and turned to pick pocketing to get by. Blade is a Capo for the Gruco Crime Family. Blade is in a position to protect Emily from her past and want to do so. Nicole Cypher's characters are really well written and easy to care about. I've read several books written by Nicole Cypher; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.
