About this ebook

Criminal defense attorney Suzannah Phelps is the bane of the Fredericton police department (they call her She-Rex for her habit of shredding cops in the witness box). She is currently being stalked, but is reluctant to report it to the police, whom she half suspects of being the perpetrators. But when Detective John (Quigg) Quigley learns of it, he's determined to protect her, at considerable risk to his career. They've struck sparks off each other in the courtroom, and he's burning to do the same in the bedroom. When the danger escalates, he has the perfect excuse to pose as her boyfriend, but the closer they get, the more the lines between pretense and reality blur.

I enjoyed this romantic suspense and liked that the couple didn't fall into insta lust. Suzannah Phelps is a very successful criminal defense attorney who is well known for ripping apart the cases the prosecution has built. The police didn't like her because she made them look foolish when she tore apart their cases. Because of this, they called her She-Rex around the station. She had been getting scary messages and 'gifts' left on her doorstep for quite a while. Suzannah tried to ignore everything but it does bother to her. Even though she knew she should go to the police about this, she didn't think they would take her seriously or want to help her because of her treatment of them in the courtroom. So she didn't report this to them. When Detective John Quiggley found out about Suzannah's stalker, he took it upon himself to protect her so he became her bodyguard. It's in his nature to look out for people but he's also had a thing for her for a long time so he's not going to leave her alone. To draw the stalker out (and make himself feel better) John moved in with Suzannah making it look like he's her lover. I really like Ms. Wilson's smooth writing style. It makes it easy to picture all the scenes and become part of the story. It was nice to see this story take place in Canada. Being a Canadian helped me envision the location easily. Along with the plot being unique the characters are well developed and very likable. While Suzannah comes off as being snooty and uncaring at first, we find out the real woman is not like that at all. I liked the way John cared for and protected Suzannah. He was able to see through the woman she showed to everyone and saw the insecure woman. Was I ever surprised with the ending! Didn't see that coming at all. If you like romantic suspense, especially more suspense that romance, then you will like this book.

an author who knows what grammar is for, can punctuate sentences, who (finally and blessedly) knows Canada, draws lushly detailed scenes without being pedantic, draws well rounded, believable characters, doesn't write like a jerky robot, can knit plot elements together gracefully; wow! I'm thankful I found her stories.

I'm sorry I couldn't finish the book. U lost me at the hero being shorter than the heroine and having a receding hairline. I'm sorry but I'm too shallow like that.
