Deceptions and Lies

One terrorist, six hostages, a single bombing... nothing out of the ordinary for task force operatives Alexandra Lansing and Mark Praed. With one exception; this request comes from the High Council on Kyree.

An appeal from Kyree for task force help is peculiar enough for a planet where non-violence is practiced by all its citizens, but the Council is very specific in their choice of task force personnel: Mark Praed.

Praed is baffled by the request. This is the same planet where his birth to a well born Kyreen female caused a galactic scandal, forcing his human father to flee Kyree with his half-human infant.

The operatives travel to Kyree and meet with the High Council’s leader, Dame Ruthanon. Her orders are clear: the hostages are to be released and the terrorist captured, all without the use of violence.

Alex and Praed are soon caught up in something more devious than the straight-forward capture of a terrorist. Nothing is as it appears, and what should have been a simple operation turns into a tangled mess of falsehoods, secret associations and hidden agendas.

CONTAINS: A SORT OF JUSTICE

Half-alien Mark Praed’s mind-reading powers make him the right man to complete demanding assignments for the Commonwealth Intelligence Service. When his last mission leaves him betrayed and tortured, he faces perils worse than intergalactic traitors and spies: a new job and a partner. Forced to transfer from CIS to the Commonwealth’s counter terrorist task force, Praed is partnered with Alexandra Lansing.

Alex is a by-the-book task force veteran of two years who isn’t fond of change. And the auburn-haired beauty is far from happy working with a partner who can read her mind whenever he feels like it. Their first operation together is an easy one: Jonathan Reul is suspected of selling arms from The Groves, a resort planet he owns. They are to watch him and discover if task force suspicions are correct.

After working solo for two years at CIS, Praed is finding it difficult working with a partner. Alex wants to micromanage him, and her interfering annoys him. Added to that is her intense curiosity about his history. Her constant questions are too invasive for his liking. But as ghosts from his past rear their ugly heads, the team’s simple observe-and-report operation quickly becomes a life or death battle. Can they come together and apprehend their quarry, or will he slip away?

TALONS TOUCH
In the second year of their partnership, Commonwealth counter terrorist task force operatives, Mark Praed and Alexandra Lansing, are sent on a mission which takes them across the galaxy to a new world.

Their mission is to locate Talon, a particularly brutal but elusive terrorist who seems to be involved in every vicious attack against citizens of the Commonwealth. There is only one lead: the task force has learned a drug dealer named Randall Hamish has contacted Talon with a proposition to join forces. He and his gang have set down on the recently terra-formed farming planet of Tallis, and are terrorizing the legal, deed-holding settlers, hoping to force the colony to leave. Hamish wants the planet all to himself so he can grow, harvest, and process the illegal drug, bliss. He hopes Talon can help him with the chore of removing the settlers. In exchange, he’ll provide the terrorist with enough bliss to use as currency to purchase weapons.

Posing as a convicted felon, Praed will infiltrate Hamish’s gang while Alex is sidelined in the settlement as his contact. Praed’s orders are to find out everything he can about Talon, with emphasis on the location of the terrorist’s base. He will report it all to Alex, who in turn, will pass it on to their superior, Henry Davison. To complicate matters, Hamish has taken two of the settlers as his prisoners, and Praed is to return them to the settlement, if possible.

Right from the start, however, the mission seems to go sideways. Will Praed and Alex find a way to turn it around in time to locate Talon, stop Hamish’s scheme, and release the prisoners without losing their own lives?

A CRUEL RECKONING
Alexandra Lansing is looking forward to a vacation from her job as an operative with the Commonwealth’s counterterrorist task force. She has three blissful weeks off, and plans to spend the entire time in France. After all, everyone needs a break from stress and worry. But when she’s snatched from the Left Bank in Paris she isn’t sure if her kidnapping is a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time or a direct plot against the task force.

When she discovers Praed has also been abducted, the vacation is officially over, and the possibility of an informer at task force headquarters becomes a very real, very frightening possibility.

After escaping, Praed offers himself as bait to draw out the kidnappers, hoping to discover the mastermind behind the plot. Alex is in hot pursuit, but will she be able to reach him before his captors extract the information they want and execute him?

Winner of the Hugo and Nebula Awards

In order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien race's next attack, government agencies breed child geniuses and train them as soldiers. A brilliant young boy, Andrew "Ender" Wiggin lives with his kind but distant parents, his sadistic brother Peter, and the person he loves more than anyone else, his sister Valentine. Peter and Valentine were candidates for the soldier-training program but didn't make the cut—young Ender is the Wiggin drafted to the orbiting Battle School for rigorous military training.

Ender's skills make him a leader in school and respected in the Battle Room, where children play at mock battles in zero gravity. Yet growing up in an artificial community of young soldiers Ender suffers greatly from isolation, rivalry from his peers, pressure from the adult teachers, and an unsettling fear of the alien invaders. His psychological battles include loneliness, fear that he is becoming like the cruel brother he remembers, and fanning the flames of devotion to his beloved sister.

Is Ender the general Earth needs? But Ender is not the only result of the genetic experiments. The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Ender's two older siblings are every bit as unusual as he is, but in very different ways. Between the three of them lie the abilities to remake a world. If, that is, the world survives.

Ender's Game is the winner of the 1985 Nebula Award for Best Novel and the 1986 Hugo Award for Best Novel.

FIRST NEW HONOR HARRINGTON NOVEL IN FIVE YEARS! New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal and international best-selling phenomenon David Weber delivers book #19 in the multiple New York Times best-selling Honor Harrington series, the first new Honor Harrington novel since 2013's Shadow of Freedom.

HONOR'S FINISHING WHAT SHE STARTED

The Solarian League's navy counts its superdreadnoughts by the thousands. Not even its own government knows how enormous its economy truly is. And for hundreds of years, the League has borne the banner of human civilization, been the ideal to which humanity aspires in its diaspora across the galaxy.

But the bureaucrats known as the "Mandarins," who rule today's League, are not the men and women who founded it so long ago. They are corrupt, venal, accountable to no one . . . and they've decided the upstart Star Kingdom of Manticore must be destroyed.

Honor Harrington has worn the Star Kingdom's uniform for half a century and served her monarch and her people well. In the course of those years, the woman the newsies call the Salamander has grown from a tactically brilliant but politically naïve junior officer to supreme fleet command and a seat on the highest military and political councils of the Grand Alliance.

Very few people know war the way Honor Harrington does. Very few have lost as many men and women, as many friends, as much family, as she has. Yet despite that, hers has been a voice of caution. She knows the Mandarins and the Solarian League Navy are growing increasingly desperate as the truth of their technological inferiority sinks home, but she also knows the sheer size of the League. And she knows how its citizens will react if the Grand Alliance takes the war to the League, attacks its star systems, destroys its infrastructure . . . kills its civilians. Today's victory, bought on those terms, can only guarantee a future war of revenge against a resurgent Solarian League and its navy.

Honor knows the Grand Alliance must find a victory that doesn't require incursions deep into Solarian space, doesn't leave a legacy of bottomless hatred, and the strategy she supports has been working.

The League is sliding towards inglorious defeat as it steadily loses ground in the Protectorates and the Verge. As its central government teeters towards bankruptcy and even some of its core systems opt to secede in the face of the Mandarins' corruption. As the Solarian Navy finally realizes it cannot face an Alliance battle fleet and win.

But the Mandarins have embraced a desperate new strategy, and in pursuit of that strategy, the SLN has committed atrocities such as the galaxy has not known in a thousand years. The League have violated its own Eridani Edict against mass civilian casualties, violated the Deneb Accords prohibition on war crimes.

And they have finally killed too many of the people Honor Harrington loves.

Hers is the voice of caution and compromise no longer, and the galaxy is about to see something it has never imagined.

The Salamander is coming for the Solarian League, and Hell is coming in her wake.

Uncompromising Honor

John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army.

The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce-and aliens willing to fight for them are common. The universe, it turns out, is a hostile place.

So: we fight. To defend Earth (a target for our new enemies, should we let them get close enough) and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has gone on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding.

Earth itself is a backwater. The bulk of humanity's resources are in the hands of the Colonial Defense Force, which shields the home planet from too much knowledge of the situation. What's known to everybody is that when you reach retirement age, you can join the CDF. They don't want young people; they want people who carry the knowledge and skills of decades of living. You'll be taken off Earth and never allowed to return. You'll serve your time at the front. And if you survive, you'll be given a generous homestead stake of your own, on one of our hard-won colony planets.

John Perry is taking that deal. He has only the vaguest idea what to expect. Because the actual fight, light-years from home, is far, far harder than he can imagine-and what he will become is far stranger.
