La 3a edición mantiene la misma filosofía de las ediciones previas, incorporando todas aquellas aportaciones que lo hacen un contenido de máxima actualidad.

Uno de los focos de atención que los autores han resaltado en la nueva edición es el refuerzo del enfoque clínico. La razón de ello es que el aprendizaje "en el contexto" es fundamental no sólo en el campo de la anatomía, sino en la educación médica en general.

Así, la correlación clínica se aborda desde dos puntos de vista. Por un lado, se han actualizado y renovado los "clinical boxes", los aspectos clínicos insertados en el propio texto, los casos clínicos al final de cada capítulo y también los apartados de anatomía de superficie.
