About this ebook

"Riley Edwards is the queen of suspense! She knows just how to grab a reader and not let go! I recommend every single one of her books!" ~Susan Stoker, NYT Bestselling Author

Former Navy SEAL Nixon Swagger was home.

After twelve years of service and twice as many deployments, all Nix wanted was quiet. He'd sought the solace of the land he'd grown up on and found the peace he needed to silence the noise and figure out his next move. Nixon's stay was supposed to be temporary. He wasn't supposed to meet a feisty, head-strong woman who made his pulse race and set his body on fire. Falling in love hadn't been part of his plan. Taking a government contract to stop a homegrown terrorist group hadn't been either, but when the organization threatens to attack Philadelphia, he had no choice but to accept.

McKenna Wilson was living. Every day was the same. Raising her two teenage siblings didn't leave time for much else. Most days, she was okay with that. Then she bumped into the sexy war hero and, in an instant, her world changed. She had no idea falling for Nixon would be so dangerous. Now she was going head-to-head with the small-town's dirty sheriff who was hell-bent on ruining Nixon and avenging a fifteen-year-old grudge. She'd lost her heart, but losing her life wasn't part of the plan.

Nixon Swagger had learned a few things as a Navy SEAL—adapt, improvise, and overcome were among the many. In the middle of an inferno, so ominous even Dante wouldn't buy a ticket, Nixon must adapt to his new surroundings and overcome multiple threats before he loses the woman he loves.

What readers are saying:

"Oh my gosh did I ever love this book, and to think it’s the first in a series, so there is more to come. Nixon’s Promise is extremely well written with characters that touch the heart. What a remarkable storyline that will make you laugh, smile, hold you in it’s suspenseful grip and leave you hot and bothered all at the same time."

"If I could give 100 Stars, I would. I know that I sound like a broken record but Riley Edwards did it .... again and I'm confident to say that Ms Edwards will continue to awe me with her awesomeness."

"This original new series from Riley Edwards shows great promise. Nixon Swagger has returned to his Maryland hometown to regroup and plan his next move after 12 years in the Navy. Meeting McKenna and falling for her wasn't part of his plan, but sometimes plans need to change. This is my favorite line from the book, "Sometimes you need sacrifice what you want to do so you can do what you need to do for those you love." The characters are well developed and the story is compelling. As with any new series, I had to be patient at the beginning as series developing. Nixon's POV is written in third person and McKenna's POV is in first person. It took me until chapter 3 to really get in the groove of the changing POV, but it works well."

First let me say I am totally addicted to this series already and this is only the first book in the series The writing is awesome and I connected with the characters from the word go in fact I was laughing with them in the first chapter I am now desperately waiting for more books in this great new series Nixon Swagger has to figure out what to do with himself now that he is no longer a Seal he has served for twelve years but it is time to leave so he has returned to his small Maryland town to plan his future What he didn't expect was to meet McKenna a stay at home worker caring for her two siblings after they are orphaned. The attraction between them is mutual and they start to form a relationship but danger is looming and Nixon will have to deal with a sheriff and his sons but in the process he will find a new job and start to form a team with some of his ex team mates.

Hmmm Let me think, what did I love about this book everything. I am not usually a fan of insta-love type reads and while theirs was fast there was a lot more depth than you usually find but then that's what this author is good about. Her characters are never shallow and her stories are always more than meets the eye. I love that McKenna isn't a helpless female, but has some piss and vinegar, and adds so much value to the team. I do so hate helpless wimpy females. This is a great story filled with action and some passion it's more than worth the time. Nixon and his friends are here to stay and setting us up for a round of standalone reads that will keep you panting and your heart racing. It isn't just about the mission it's about all it takes to build a family, a life and taking care of what's yours. That's what this is about his promise to keep them safe.

This review is of the audiobook version. This may be Nixon’s story but the author gives McKenna equal footing so we can get to know both of them. There was chemistry almost from the beginning. Nixon served proudly and now he’s using his expertise in business. McKenna is trying to give her siblings a stable environment. I will admit that on Saturday mornings I watch a lot of the E/I shows. One in particular is called Mission Unstoppable. I could picture McKenna having a spot showing how women can find a place in the coding world. We have two voice actors that really bring all the characters to life. Mr. Arden and Ms. Mallon both do a great job at changing their voices for all the different characters. I was listening to a certain scene, that Mr. Arden was reading, while at work and I almost burst out laughing. I’m going to leave it up to you to listen so I’ll only give you a one word hint – unicorn. Ms. Mallon made it easy to picture the emotions McKenna was feeling - both the highs and the lows. They made it very easy to concentrate on each scene that they act out – like listening to a play or movie. Our author has a way of creating some scenes where you’ll want to hold your breath. There are others where you’ll want to cheer for the main characters. She also may have you wanting to check out her character’s neck of the woods – minus all the adventure. With all the craziness going on in the country right now, I can see this being a part of that. The author made the perfect choice for the first book of the series. You want a book that’s going to grab your attention – a book that you can’t put down. And leave you anticipating the very next book. It’s not a story that you will want any interruptions because you can't put it down until the very last word is spoken. Something that you’ll be pleased to know is that there are seven books in the series and they all have an audio version. Something else you’ll be pleased to know is that both Ms. Mallon and Mr. Arden will narrate all of them. Now I’m patiently waiting to listen to Jameson’s Salvation. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

About the author

Riley Edwards is a USA Today and WSJ bestselling author, wife, and military mom. Riley was born and raised in Los Angeles but now resides on the east coast with her fantastic husband and children. Her two eldest children have flown the coop and are now serving in the US military. Riley also has a teenage daughter that is the source of laughter and wit around her house. Her youngest son is a "bad-ass" in training and is very much a mini version of his Alpha father.

Riley writes heart-stopping romance with sexy alpha heroes and even stronger heroines. Riley's favorite genres to write are romantic suspense and military romance. (Those are also her favorites to read.) She's known for her jaw-dropping plot twists. You know the ones? Those pivotal scenes in a story that when executed so flawlessly it leaves you breathless and begging for more? Yeah, those! She's mastered the art of blending suspense, romance, and smoldering sexy times.
