As I sit here and type, I can't help but wonder, would I have signed up to be an apartment sitter if I were in Jules' situation? You betcha! Any single individual in need of a place to live would likely have had no problem applying for this gig, not to mention the thousand dollars a week salary provided just to babysit said upscale apartment! That's just how they get you; promises of a too-good-to-be-true lifestyle, offering plenty of cash and peace of mind as you rebuild your life. I'd probably take endless baths and read all day myself! The grandeur of the Bartholomew alone is enough to sweep any concerns under the rug! Unfortunately for Jules', she's forced to pick up all of the pieces of her life the hard way... but can she pick them all up? Riley Sager has succeeded in captivating me right from the start, pulling me in and holding tight until that jaw-dropping-didn't-see-it-coming twist at the end! This may be my first novel by this author, but it certainly will not be my last! The mere fact that we're given Jules' early thoughts and experiences right alongside the "now" six days later makes it all the more intriguing. I, for one, was under the impression that the apartment building was haunted, wallpaper and all. Maybe I was right. I enjoyed the contrast between the two timelines; the now sections, so emergent and desperate, connected with Jules' initial, raw, and assumedly innocent encounters quite well. At first glance, the end felt a tad bit out of left-field, yet after a moment or two, all of the pieces connected in a way bringing everything full circle. I would recommend this book to everyone! Even those who don't typically read thrillers may find themselves coming to the dark side... check it out! Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers from Penguin Random House, and the author Riley Sager for providing me with a complimentary copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

After the amazing final girls and the last time I lied I was severely disappointed by this 3rd outing. I felt it was very poorly paced and the plot was bland and predictable. Unlike the other two I had this pretty much wrapped up a 3rd of the way through. As exciting as the ending was the build up was just lackluster. And real question why does the author set up a side mystery that HE NEVER RESOLVES. Like the drowning death of a former Olympic level swimmer in The last time I lied and now the mystery of Jane. its really frustrating to end a book where a major plot point is never resolved. This is by no means a bad book just a let down compared to the two previous.

Lock Every Door felt a little like a trip inside a Hitchcock story. It has a haunting atmosphere and a steadily rising tension that kept me turning those pages to see where it would all go. It's a slow burn story, and so many seemingly innocuous things happen that it's easy to slip into a comfortable, easy feeling. Then, we go back to present day and Jules' circumstances snap us back into that feeling of unease, of guessing what led to those circumstances. Now, here's where I tell you that I'm hard to get. I usually see the big reveal coming at least in part. Not this time. Not even an inkling. And I hate to admit it, but there were hints. It's one of those hindsight things. It was all crystal clear once I knew the secret. There were so many way this one could have gone, and I thought I had guessed all of them. Nope, that reveal sneaked right up on me. I love it when that happens! All in all, this one is another great read from Riley Sager. It's atmospheric, filled with creepy characters, and the more you read, the faster you want to read.
