I found this book to be an excellent step-up, as an introduction to Islam, from the likes of an "Idiot's Guide" or "Dummies Guide" formatted publication. Professor Nasr gives excellent examples of how the Islamic view is similar and in other cases differs from the Christian, Judaic, and Hindu views. In addition, he fills the book with Arabic words and English equivalents through out the book, giving the reader a strong foundation to continue reading other Islamic guides. I am not familiar with Professor Nasr's other works, however, I would strongly suggest this book to anyone who has a general idea of Islam, but would like more a detailed and comparative work to other religions of the West.

Seyyed Hossein Nasr is university professor of Islamic Studies at George Washington University. Author of over fifty books, Professor Nasr is a well-known and highly respected intellectual figure both in the West and in the Islamic world. Born in Tehran, raised from the age of twelve in the United States, and a graduate of MIT and Harvard University, Nasr is well qualified to explain Islam to a Western audience. He appears frequently on Meet the Press, as well as other national news shows.
