Ratings and reviews

I haven't read any of Sophie Love's other books, so I'm not sure what genre she fits into (if any). However, this book is clearly marketed as a cozy mystery (the cover art screams cozy mystery) which, to me anyway, implies there will be some supernatural events. There are a few vague hints that may be developed in the later novels in the series, but there is nothing supernatural in this book. So, how does it rate as a murder mystery? It's not horrible, but it's not great either. It's pretty easy to read and I didn't notice any of the egregious grammatical errors or missing words that some other reviewers have mentioned, so they may well have been corrected in the ebook. The protagonist is, initially at least, a relatable character (at least to anyone who has worked in the book and publishing industry), but she makes a lot of decisions that don't really seem to fit her character. Overall, the book is slightly reminiscent of an Agatha Christie style mystery (although not as well-written), but the heroine channels Inspector Clouseau more than Miss Marple.

It was boring, predictable ending ( I knew who the killer was waaaaay before the reveal ), and it actually had the feel of one of those click bait stories where they give the same information 20 times before getting to the point. Disappointing.
