About this ebook

Newly knighted, Alanna of Trebond seeks adventure in the vast desert at the edge of Tortall in this third book in Tamora Pierce’s Margaret A. Edwards Award–winning young adult series—now with a new look!

After achieving knighthood, Alanna leaves the capital city to explore the desert near the kingdom’s borders. When the local Bazhir people discover her, they charge her with trespassing and sentence her to a duel to the death. But when Alanna wins, she’s inducted into the tribe—and soon after, she becomes the tribe’s first female shaman.

Still, dire challenges lie ahead. Alanna must convince the Bazhir to change their ancient customs for their sake and for the sake of all Tortall.

I love this series, but after reading the first two books, they really don't feel complete. So, I did some digging online, and turns out, the books I've bought recently are only HALF the book! Most so far are missing 100+ pages! Where's the rest of the books, and if I have to buy them as well, why? I can go to Amazon and buy the whole book for the same price I paid here! I'm seriously not happy to have gotten only half the book. Not cool.

Growing up as a tomboy, I could really relate to Alanna and her feelings of female inferiority. As the story progresses, Alanna is able to accept herself as a woman without losing the strong parts of herself she develops. Not only is this series great for maturing girls looking for a place in the world, but it's full of excitement, magic, sword fights, love and tragedy. First read it at school when I was 12, now I'm 30 and own the series and still dust it off every now and then for a feel good read.
