About this ebook

This is the story of the kids who built a world-class church — Heart of God Church started as a divine experiment to build a prototype Youth Church. Now it has developed into a proof of concept that Youths can build a STRONG CHURCH.

GenerationS is a mindset-shifting, heart-changing book that shows you how to raise up generations of young people in your church to build His kingdom.

After over 20 years, this youth church, operated by youths, for youths to reach youths, still has an average age of 22.

“I see a great struggle in the global churches in keeping the young people… At Heart of God Church, things are different. After ministering in the biggest churches and conferences all over the world, what I’ve witnessed at Heart of God Church is unlike anything I have experienced before. What Heart of God Church has wonderfully modelled for us all should not only be applauded and admired; it should also be reproduced everywhere.”

– JOHN BEVERE, International bestselling author The Bait of Satan, Co-Founder, Messenger International

“On my most recent visit, one of my band was so wowed by the environment of the visual/video tech room – where he saw not just one operator at each station, but three... (This) was so impressive – there was one operator, one trainer and one trainee. These were people in their mid to high teens, some as young as 12 or 13... Considering the amount of responsibility a video/visual team carries in a large service, and how much specialised technical skill there is to learn... he was amazed. There was a beautiful trust being placed in these young people... and ultimately it’s the Jesus model of discipleship.”

– MATT REDMAN, Two-time Grammy Award winner, singer-songwriter and worship leader

In a day and age inundated with skepticism about megachurches, it's refreshing to read a book by pastors who focus more on growing the church younger and stronger, as opposed to just making it grow bigger. In this church, the youth ministry isn't a stepping stone to the adults ministry, nor is the children's church a "glorified Sunday school" - the youth ministry IS the church, and the young people are serving front and centre - onstage, behind the camera, and even in the media control room. 16-year-olds are given the opportunity to lead 14-year-olds. And 17-year-olds worship lead in the main service. If you have a hard time imagining what this looks like, the free digital companion includes videos! I was also really touched by the Senior Pastors' relentless belief in the youths, as well as the youths' sense of ownership over the church and their ministries. On a personal note, maybe it's because I've found myself fighting discouragement and disillusionment into my 30s, but the stories and principles shared in this book ignited an idealism in me that I thought had faded away with age. Principles like "youths are leaders TODAY, not just tomorrow" and "start empowering youths, stop entertaining them" challenged me to turn my heart to the next generation, and to the generation after that, instead of lording my "seniority" over them. This has helped me not only in church, but in my workplace (where I supervise people younger than me) and in my walk with God. I was also very touched by how this book was not written for profit because the authors wanted to simply bless and empower those who are trying to grow their churches/ministries. 5/5 stars!

Caution: Not for the faint-hearted!! Only when you're ready for your heart to be expanded, and spirit to be stirred. Then, begin this read with a heart of expectation for God to move in you, and through you.. Right at the start, the preface by the co-authors, Ps Tan Seow How & Ps Lia already had me in tears.. Never have I heard the voices of Pastors so humble in their ways, yet so proud of what God has done through them and the church they both pioneered - Heart of God Church. While reading the book, it's like you’re sitting, listening and learning from them personally. Their passion, obedience to God, and relentless belief in young people and GenerationS echo loud through the pages. It's hard to read on without jotting notes (hehe) All the godly wisdom and principles to glean from! The teachings, the life testimonies, videos (accessible via QR code - an accompanying digital companion) take you on the journey with Ps How and Ps Lia.. When I reached the end of the book, I felt my mindset shifting and elevating.. A vision is not limited to 1 individual or 1 generation saved, but many GenerationS after! My spirit is revving to go!

Reading the entire book is just like a roller coaster ride there are moments that makes you go L-O-L and next you have moments where you reach out to the tissue papers and just being so touched by the testimonies of what God is doing. — The entire book is simply engaging. What I love most about this book is that it's very easy to read and every single chapter there is a takeaway, more than that, it is accompanied with real life examples and what has been accomplished. It is not just a theory but it is a prototype. That is not just all but you get to read from the different contributors who shared their own encounters. There is a total of 13 contributors!? It's just so mind-blowing. One of the quote I really like — "Empowered youths become producers. Entertained youths become consumers." This books is HIGHLY recommended! You got to get your hands on this book and go through the whole experience yourself (over and over again)! P.s/ check out the digital companion, you will not regret it
