Archetypal grass roots activists

The vibe has soured somewhat after a violent clash in the Janus nightclub a few months ago, and since then Neal has opened a new establishment called ‘Dinnusos’.

Located on a derelict and forgotten side of town, it is not the sort of place you stumble upon by accident, but over time it enchants people, and soon becomes a nucleus for urban bohemians and a refuge for the city’s lost souls. Rumour has it that it was once a grand hotel, many years ago, but no one is quite sure. Whilst mingling in the bar downstairs you might find yourself in the company of poets, dreamers, outsiders, and all manner of misfits and rebels. And if you’re daring enough to explore its ghostly halls, there’s a whole labyrinth of rooms on the upper floors to get lost in...

Now it seems that not just Neal’s clientele, but the entire population of the city, begin to go crazy when beings, once thought mythological, enter the mortal realm to stir chaos as they sow the seeds of militancy.

Eight characters. Most of them friends, some of them strangers. Each with their own story to tell. All of them destined to cross paths in a surreal sequence of events which will change them forever.

About the author

Tej has spent much of his life on the move and he does not have any particular place he calls ‘home’. For a large period of his childhood he dwelt within the Westcountry of England, and he then moved to rural Wales to study Creative Writing and Film at Trinity College in Carmarthen, followed by a master’s degree at The University of Wales Lampeter.

After completing his studies he spent a couple of years travelling around Asia, where he took a particular interest in jungles, temples, and mountains. He returned to the UK in 2015 for the release of his debut novel The Janus Cycle, published by Elsewhen Press. Since then he has been living in Cardiff, where he works as a chef by day, writes by moonlight, and squeezes in the occasional trip to explore historic sites and the British countryside.

Dinnusos Rises is his second novel and he plans on spending the next few years writing more. He will probably get itchy feet again, and when that happens he has his sights set upon South America.

He keeps a travelblog on his website, where he also posts author-related news:

Super heroine in peril fiction at its finest!

Young, beautiful, and powerful, Catgirl is Synne City's newest super heroine out to prove herself. Catgirl is out on a full moon, looking for a trio of brutal escapees. The city is in an odd mood, everyone acting all crazy. Even the other super heroines are moontruck. In the midst of all this craziness, the young super heroine is determined to capture her prey, but under a full moon anything can happen. Can Catgirl catch the escapees with strength and cunning, or will she end up as moonstruck crazy as everyone else?

Warning: This super heroine in peril, urban fantasy story has explicit violence and sex. It gets down and dirty, showing the dark side of costumed vigilantism. For adults 18 years old and above who are not easily offended.

This is a story of approximately 11,550 words of actual story. This is a great story if you want a fun super heroine in peril romp.

It was unlikely she broke his legs, though that strike would've broken a normal man's legs. Her heels did penetrate the flesh, all the way to the bones, but Ox's bones were just too big, thick, strong.

The other two gawked at their fallen comrade a second. Catgirl charged Dog, who countered her punch amazingly fast. They traded a dozen punches, each blocking or avoiding the other's fists. Horse charged in, so Catgirl broke off the fight and danced back.

"What? A couple big, mean boys afraid to fight a little girl one-on-one? Tsk. Tsk," she said, grinning with glee-filled blue eyes. "What will the other boys in prison think about a couple of girly boys like you?"

"I'll show you girly," Horse snarled, changing her.

He swung a powerful right cross at her, which she countered by kicking, driving her stiletto into that big fist. Bones snapped so loud they could hear them. Even Catgirl cringed just a little at that sickening sound.

"Ugh! Bitch," Horse said, clutching his injured hand.

She shrugged, assuming a classic super heroine pose before him. Wagging her brows, she said, "I warned you fair and square, but you chose — " Horse kicked straight up into her chin, snapping her head back. "Uuggh!" Then his left found her belly. "Aagh!"

Catgirl bent over his fist, intense pain radiating throughout her shapely body. He shifted, and she knew his knee was about to come up. That blow would put her down, and probably out permanently. She didn't think they'd let her live long.

Super heroine in peril fiction at its finest!

Grimme City's super heroines are young, hot, and descended of the legendary Viking Valkyrie.

Ms Patriot is Grimme City's premier super heroine, and she seeks to stop evil where ever she finds it, even in the city's top entertainment venues. Discovering the nation's top pro wrestler is advocating a lifestyle of violence towards women, she challenges him to a no holds barred fight. Winner takes all. Her victory will send him off into oblivion, retired never to return. His victory will put her on her knees, his girlfriend for a year, to use and abuse for all to see on national TV. She has super strength, so how can she lose? Does Ms Patriot realize what she's gotten herself into? Can she outwit and outfight a master of manipulation?

Warning: This super heroine in peril, urban fantasy story has explicit violence and sex. It gets down and dirty, showing the dark side of costumed vigilantism. For adults 18 years old and above who are not easily offended.

This is a story of approximately 10,800 words.

“Ms Patriot, Bruno will agree to your match if you agree to our terms,” she said.

“Name them,” Ms Patriot said, victory in sight.

There was no way for her to lose this. She would end their vile exhibition in brutality for once and all time. Once again, she would be the savior of the women’s movement and put evil misogynists back in their place.

“Okay, it will be a no holds barred, no rules grudge match. Anything goes. Agreed?”

All eyes were on Ms Patriot. Bruno was behind the others. He grinned and winked at her, flashing her the thumb’s up. She took that to mean it was all a go now.

“And if you win, then Bruno will leave wrestling forever and vanish into the masses,” Yvette said.

“But if Bruno wins, then you will become his official girlfriend for a year. Both on and off stage,” she said, grinning at Ms Patriot’s shocked look. “You, Ms Patriot, will become Bruno’s bitch.”

Nodding, Aaron said, “Perfect! It’s the only way. The fans will eat it up when their beloved hero crushes Ms Patriot and makes her his bitch. Damn! I like it!”

“So do I! What a selling point,” Simon said. “We’ll make a fortune either way it goes!”

“Well, that’s all you guys care about anyway,” Bruno said, giving her an encouraging nod. “I’m the one who will be tossed out of the business, with no hope of returning.”

When all eyes turned back to Ms Patriot, Bruno gave her an encouraging look and nod. As if to say, we got them where we want them. We will decide how this turns out. She almost forgot he was on her side, what with the whole “becoming his bitch” thing being his idea and all. But he wanted his reign of terror to end as well. So it was just a good marketing ploy, and apparently what was need to get Dominant Management to agree.

But how scary was the deal? If she lost, she would have to become the very woman she was trying to protect. She would have to endure his use and abuse, and very publicly. But with her power belt she’d be better equipped to deal with him.

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King’s Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert’s name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn; his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon; his daughters Sansa and Arya; and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse—unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season.
Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, the cruel, vainglorious Prince Joffrey, and the queen’s brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannister—the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind. All are heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms.
Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothraki—whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys.
The title, Existence is Elsewhen, paraphrases the last sentence of André Breton’s 1924 Manifesto of Surrealism, perfectly summing up the intent behind this anthology of stories from a wonderful collection of authors. Different worlds… different times. It’s what Elsewhen Press has been about since we launched our first title in 2011.

Here, we present twenty science fiction stories for you to enjoy. We are delighted that headlining this collection is the fantastic John Gribbin, with a worrying vision of medical research in the near future.  Future global healthcare is the theme of J A Christy’s story; while the ultimate in spare part surgery is where Dave Weaver takes us.  Edwin Hayward’s search for a renewable protein source turns out to be digital; and Tanya Reimer’s story with characters we think we know, gives us pause for thought about another food we take for granted.  Evolution is examined too, with Andy McKell’s chilling tale of what states could become if genetics are used to drive policy. Similarly, Robin Moran’s story explores the societal impact of an undesirable evolutionary trend; while Douglas Thompson provides a truly surreal warning of an impending disaster that will reverse evolution, with dire consequences.

On a lighter note, we have satire from Steve Harrison discovering who really owns the Earth (and why); and Ira Nayman, who uses the surreal alternative realities of his Transdimensional Authority series as the setting for a detective story mash-up of Agatha Christie and Dashiel Hammett.  Pursuing the crime-solving theme, Peter Wolfe explores life, and death, on a space station; while Stefan Jackson follows a police investigation into some bizarre cold-blooded murders in a cyberpunk future. Going into the past, albeit an 1831 set in the alternate Britain of his Royal Sorceress series, Christopher Nuttall reports on an investigation into a girl with strange powers.

Strange powers in the present-day is the theme for Tej Turner, who tells a poignant tale of how extra-sensory perception makes it easier for a husband to bear his dying wife’s last few days. Difficult decisions are the theme of Chloe Skye’s heart-rending story exploring personal sacrifice.  Relationships aren’t always so close, as Susan Oke’s tale demonstrates, when sibling rivalry is taken to the limit.  Relationships are the backdrop to Peter R. Ellis’s story where a spectacular mid-winter event on a newly-colonised distant planet involves a Madonna and Child.  Coming right back to Earth and in what feels like an almost imminent future, Siobhan McVeigh tells a cautionary tale for anyone thinking of using technology to deflect the blame for their actions.  Building on the remarkable setting of Pera from her LiGa series, and developing Pera’s legendary Book of Shadow, Sanem Ozdural spins the creation myth of the first light tree in a lyrical and poetic song. Also exploring language, the master of fantastika and absurdism, Rhys Hughes, extrapolates the way in which language changes over time, with an entertaining result.
