The rich details about the main character, J. Clay Carter II, give somewhat of an "underdog" feeling. Clay's actions and emotions throughout the novel really show what wealth can do to a person. First a desperate young public defender, then a seasoned mass-litigating brute. The dynamic drafting of his characters is what makes him such a successful author. This novel here is no exception.
The King of Torts gives an insightful and interesting view of our legal universe. I never suspected the amount of knowledge about law I would gain from reading such a piece of literature.
Being the great novel it is, it does have some minor flaws. Those being the really sappy, personal life of Clay and his two girlfriends and the unrealistic ignorance of common sense displayed in the end of the book.
I definitely recommend this novel to anybody who is interested in law and anyone who has liked any of Grisham's other works.

I haven't read of any his books for ages, and this reminded me why. Unusually for me, you could see the ending coming from about 10 miles away. Easy reading, though.

John Grisham amazes me in his novel "The King of Torts," a story of romance, greed, drama, and the world of mass tort litigation. Mr. Grisham perfectly weaves the tale of Clay Carter, a Public Defender-turned-multimillionaire mass tort lawyer, giving us a story that keeps you reading, with twists at every turn. He perfectly and cleanly introduces us to the world of law, with such everyday lingo. Grisham puts his expertise and knowledge of law into action. I recommend this for those looking for a nice tale.
